Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra 2013 Review

Ford has recently unveiled the Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra 2013, a one-off Ford Mustang that has been solely built to commemorate former race car driver, auto designer and automotive legend Caroll Shelby that passed away earlier this year. The Shelby GT500 Cobra has been constructed by "Friends of Caroll Shelby" and has recently made its debut at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

This burnout machine is motivated by the same 6.2 liter V8 power plant found on the Shelby GT500 2013 but the amount of horsepower generated has been upped from 662 to 850 hp with the help of a 4.0 liter Whipple supercharger. In order to cope with the jaw-dropping amount of power the GT500 Cobra has been fitted with a pair of 13-inch-wide wheels at the back mated with 345-section tires.

Nevertheless the notable boost in power is not the only modification brought to this one-off model and other unique features include the rear wide body kit, the new set of 20-inch wheels and the new set of Shelby Wilwood brakes. To commemorate the legendary Cobra from the 60's the new GT500 comes with a Guardsman Blue paint finish contrasted by a couple ofWimbledon White stripes.

Although the Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra 2013 will not go on sale and will remain a one-off tribute car, Ford plans on taking this particular model on a nationwide tour so that everyShelby fan and motoring enthusiast might have a chance to see it live.

The automotive legend Carroll Shelby passed away at the age of 89 on May 10 2012, the same year that marks the 50th anniversary of the original Shelby Cobra. As for the tribute car, Ford hopes that the after the nationwide tour, the one-off tribute muscle car will eventually be auctioned for charity, an act that Carroll would have appreciated since he always had a soft spot for helping children with heart disease and other ailments.

Besides the creation of the Shelby GT500 Cobra tribute, Ford also announced that the road at their product-development center in Dearborn Michigan will be renamed to commemorate the automotive legend.
