Mercedes Benz GL63 AMG 2013 Review

The Mercedes Benz GL has been quite a successful SUV ever since it made its debut back in 2006, and that being said many Mercedes Benz enthusiasts were beginning to wonder why isn't the GL offered in a beefed up AMG version. Well in case you sought after such a model you're in for a treat because the German manufacturer intends on launching a GL 63 AMG variant for year 2013 model.

The AMG SUV will sport a 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8 engine able to develop 550 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque from 2,000 to 5,000 RPM. The power is sent to all four wheels through AMG's 7-speed "Speedshift" automatic gearbox that offers three driving modes, and as far as performances go the GL63 AMG will go from 0 to 60 mpg in just 4.9 seconds whilst developing a top speed of 155 mph electronically limited.

The numbers are quite impressive and you can see a mile away that the AMG SUV isn't too sensible when it comes to fuel consumption. Nevertheless, the Speedshift gearbox comes with a "Comfort" driving mode which when paired up with the start/stop system it's said it will drastically increase mileage. Unfortunately Mercedes Benz has not revealed any numbers regarding the matter just yet so we can't tell how efficient the top-of-the-lineGL63 actually is.

Evidently the AMG version will feature more than just a bigger engine and offers Active Curve System designed to reduce body roll while cornering, new ventilated and perforated 15.4 inches disk brakes at the front, 13.6 inches disk brakes at the back, a more aggressive air suspension and a speed sensitive steering to improve handling.

The exterior has also been enhanced and it differentiates itself from the standard model through additional chrome touches that contrast with gloss black accents, redesigned front and rear bumpers and a set of 21 inch AMG alloy wheels.

On the interior the GL63 delivers the same high grade of luxury you would expect, and compared to the standard model the AMG offers perforated leather on the front seats, a flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel featuring paddle shifters, metallic pedals alongside metallic accents covering the air vents, gauges and, door handles and center stack. Furthermore the AMG offers Keyless-Go, power tailgate, three-zone automatic climate control, memory front seats, a panoramic roof and a Bang& Olufsen BeoSound system.

Price and availability wise the German car manufacturer has not revealed any information yet regarding the upcoming Mercedes Benz GL63 AMG, but one thing is certain, the competition between the GL-Series and the BMW X5, AUDI Q7 or the Infinity QX56 will become fiercer.
