About 25 years ago, Volkswagen Scirocco made its global debut and enjoyed an immediate success because of the cool and compact coupe looks. ABT Sportsline's engineers and designers worked hard on Scirocco to output something more special. The end result is ABT Volkswagen Scirocco 2009 which has 240 HP on the road, base upto 30 mm lower, 4-pipe rear mufler, the springs and 19" wheel sets. The upgrade package will cost you close to 6k Euros.

When the original Scirocco made its debut a quarter of a century ago, it became an immediate success, because the cool, compact Coupe was something special. “It’s absolutely no different today”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt, the General Manager of ABT Sportsline. This applies even more once the designers and engineers of the world’s largest tuner of VW vehicles have worked on the Scirocco. The result is impressive, can be felt when driving and gets the adrenaline pumping as well as fascinating people just like a sports car. “And that’s exactly what the ABT Scirocco is, it has very good handling as well as also being economically interesting”, continues Hans-Jürgen Abt. The cars have had their performance increased by the company from Allgäu thanks to ABT POWER, and they all now provide the speed to suit their dynamic optics: instead of 200 HP (147 kW) the 2.0 TSI now has a sporty 240 HP (177 kW) on the road, the diesel engine of the same size is thereby increased to 170 HP or 125 kW (standard: 140 HP/103kW). Of particular interest is the 1.4 TSI which is powerful, but actually economical on fuel consumption, with up to 160 HP (118 kW) as standard. With the ABT version, 200 HP (147 kW) is now available. As a result the engine reaches the performance values of the larger series engines (2.0 TSI), while guzzling much less fuel.
ABT also has, of course, springs in its product range. They make the Scirocco up to 30 millimetres lower – and thereby even more agile – on the road. The complete Upgrade Kit consists of the design pack, the 4-pipe rear muffler, the springs and complete wheel sets (19 inch AR alloys, diamond-machined and black, plus tyres and wheel spacers) is available at the launch of the ABT Scirocco in January 2009 for a reasonable 5,990 Euros.
Anything that has such dynamic charisma must also have convincing performance. ABT has therefore also developed power refinements for the VW engine. The 1.4 TSI now offers 200 HP (147 kW) on the road with ABT Power instead of 160 hp (11 kW), and the turbo diesel with two litre capacity 170 hp / 125 kW (standard: 140 hp / 103kW) The ABT Scirocco will be available with these upgrades from the start. Later on in the year the compact sports coupe will also be available with an increased-power 2.0 TSI. With it the car has 240 hp / 177 kW (standard: 200 hp / 147 kW).
The brake pads of the ABT Braking system are able to cope with any situation, and with a diameter of 345 always grip powerfully. As is normal at ABT, all the details fit perfectly together and thereby result in a fascinating top range car. You can see that it comes from the very top of the range and want to drive it straight off.
