BMW New Special Edition R 1200 GS

BMW thought of the best way to celebrate the 500,000th GS produced since the bike was first introduced, back in 1980, with the releasing of 500 special edition R1200GS models.

The anniversary bike will feature a bunch of accessories, such as a front fender extension, black oil-cooler spoiler, tinted windshield, two-tone seat that's 20mm higher than standard, black rims, aluminum cylinder head protectors. The special edition bike will also feature the first ever white paint scheme on a GS. All that for only 350 euros ($471) more than the standard bike.

BMW Motorrad announces a new Special Edition R 1200 GS

Limited Edition GS offers more than £1,100 of free equipment

BMW Motorrad has launched a striking Special Edition version of the R 1200 GS, the UK 's favourite all-round motorcycle, to celebrate the 15th year of the 4-valve GS boxer twin.

This limited edition model comes in Alpine white with a dual-colour seat and a distinctive black front ‘beak'. To stand out from the ever-popular standard model, the SE version is supplied with black cross spoke wheels, protective aluminium head covers and a tinted screen as standard.

The high-standard specification of the R 1200 GS SE represents great value for money. Not only does the SE benefit from the free pannier promotion, on offer to purchasers of GS and GS Adventure models until 30 September, but it also comes complete with both Dynamic and Premium specification packages, saving customers more than £1,100 over a standard model with these additions.

The factory-fitted Dynamic package offers customers piece of mind with the best safety options available from BMW Motorrad. These are ABS, Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and Tyre Pressure Control.  For added rider comfort and fun, the Premium package offers BMW's highly acclaimed and industry leading Enduro Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA II). The unique Enduro ESA is easy to use, enabling the rider to adjust the suspension of the bike to suit load or terrain, by simply pressing a button on the handlebar controls. Also available in the Premium pack are heated handlebar grips, an on-board computer, chrome exhaust pipe and LED indicators.

The R 1200 GS SE is built to order at a cost of just £11,400 OTR. BMW Motorrad dealers are taking orders now, with the first bikes being delivered to customers in July 2009.

R 1200 GS SE features at a glance:

  • Striking Alpine White paintwork
  • Black cross-spoke wheels
  • Tinted screen
  • Dual-colour seat
  • Aluminium cylinder head protectors
  • Complimentary panniers and fittings (until 30 September)
  • Factory fitted Premium and Dynamic specification packages
