BMW F 700 GS 2012 Review

BMW has recently revealed the details about the new F 700 GS 2012 arriving on the market later this year. To avoid any sort of confusion we must point out that the F 700 GS is not a brand new model joining the F-series, but it is in fact the new F 650 GS.

Fact of the matter is, the F series was composed by the F 800 R, the F 800 ST, F 650 GS and F 800 GS, all of which are powered by an 800 CC engine. Since the name of the F 650 was rather confusing and those unfamiliar with BMW's lineup used to think the 650 had a 650 CC engine, BMW decided to change the bike's name this year.

To summarize things up, same as before, the main difference between the F 700 and the F 800 is the fact that the first one is a street-oriented bike, whereas the latter is a more off-road oriented enduro bike.

Now that we got that out of the way, let's take a more in-depth look at what the new street-oriented model has to offer. The 2012 bike benefits from a tuned-up engine that increases the power by 4 horsepower for a total of 75 HP when compared to the previous model.

Other technical features expected from the 2012 model includes double disk brake system at the front wheel, Automatic Stability Control and Electronic Suspension Adjustment as an option and a rear spring mound that can be adjusted via handwheel just to name a few. Furthermore, both the F 700 GS and the F 800 GS will be fitted with BMW's two-channel ABS system as a standard.

In terms of design the new model also brings new changes to the table including a redesigned body delivering a more dynamic, aggressive look, a new windshield and a new cockpit offering new dials and an extended range of information.

Other optional extras include the comfort package that adds an on-board computer, heated grips, center stand and case holder, enduro wide footrests and a comfort seat. Color options include Red apple metallic, Glacier silver metallic and Ostra grey metallic.

Unfortunately pricing and availability for the BMW F 700 GS 2012 has not been revealed thus far but we're keeping an eye on this one so stay tuned.
