As his Corsica is starting to die, plus he needs more space and wants 4 wheel drive for going to the mountain and stuff.
He personally wants a Pacifica, but this guy at work is selling this 1995 Audi S6 Avant for $17k or $18k (my dad's memory sucks).
Anyway, I'm kinda pushing for him to get it, assuming it's 4WD. What do you guys think?
Specs: emerald green, Ecru leather (WTF does that mean?), 2nd owner, 79,XXX miles, Intended Acceleration stage III+ chip (290 hp) installed 10k miles ago, Porsche Big Red calipers, Eibach springs w/Billstein Sports, Samco hoses, inline 5

I'd pass on an old Audi like that...they're a bit spotty in terms of reliability as far as I can tell.
But it IS fucking beautiful...damn :/

So? How cool is it to have Porsche brakes on your car?

They ran like $1500 too.

Well, they must be helluva good brakes but I don't want to imagine how much it cost to replace them not to mention it says Porsche when it's so clearly an Audi. I dunno, kinda messes with the cars image cause of Porsche written on the brakes.

Eh, it works for me because it's extremely reminiscent of the RS2. And porsche brakes are gonna cost roughly the same as audi brakes to maintain/replace.

Sadly I agree. You would think I would like anything Porsche, but, its not a Porsche. I dunno. If they didnt say PORSCHE on them I wouldnt mind, kinda like "sleeper brakes"

Yeah. He works for Freightliner which is owned by Diamler-Chrysler. He'd save about $3500 off the sticker price.

Older Audi's are spotchy on reliability? How so? As far as I'm concerned they're just rebadged and more costly VWs and VW has treated my family very very well.

I sure hope that thing's all wheel drive. I've never seen a non-quattro Audi.
Viper007Bond
Feb 2 2005, 10:37 PM
Yeah, that's what I thought. It doesn't say "Quattro" on it though, so I wasn't sure.

I know people with older Audi's who have had a lot of problems with them, this isn't the first time I've heard this...

For the reliability, my dad owns a Audi 80, and thats crap! Nothing less. But thats the only old Audi i know of that is not reliable.

Feeling a little ruthless? There is no VW version of the A6 but it is only a few inches wider and longer than a Passat or hardly smaller than a Phaeton.

one of my friend's dad's friends has an S6, i think it is slightly newer though. He was driving up to killington vt from ct and my friends dad gets a call from him. this guy says that he thinks he broke the car somehow, because all of a sudden it stopped accelerating and wont go any faster. bit of a pause... friends dad asks how fast he's going. guy says, oh, well, 150mph.

its not broken chief.

That's a lot of $ to spend on a 10 year old car.. especially one as costly to maintain / repair as this.

get something better than a Pacifica but not that audi, it's ugly and very $$$ in repairs
a new A4 1.8T quattro?
clarkma5
Feb 3 2005, 07:50 PM
WHOEVER BUYS A 1.8T QUATTRO SHOULD BE SHOT.
The A4 is a heavy car, Quattro is a heavy AWD system, and the 1.8T simply ISN'T powerful enough for it...ESPECIALLY when people order it with the shitty Tiptronic transmission (which they inevitably do).
The A4 3.0 FWD >> A4 1.8T Quattro

Ecru = the color of the leather. Greyish yellow.
An A4 1.8t is fine for people who just want an Audi to cruise in with some potential under the hood. But for people who want to get up and go, the 3.0 v6 puts out a nice 220hp. Of course you gotta look at the price tag.
Pacifica <

I hate SUVs and everything about them.

I like it..
Also remember, Porsche works very close with VW and here childern companies. The Auto box you get on the Boxster is the same as the Passat's and etc.
The Audi RS2 was pretty much called the 4 door Porsche as it even shipped with the Porsche badge under the Audi RS logo.
Also the Porsche brakes are a very common mod for VW/Audi owners who want better brakes. I know a good number of guys running Porsche brakes on there Passats since they have some major upgrades done to them, or, as in the case with many Audi's/VW's that ship with Shitty brakes and roters as OE (i learn first hand).
I like this car.. Not bad, also the 280hp, is that before or after the chip and etc? I dont know the stock number in my head. Then again i own a VW so i am kind of bias in a way =P
Also who said the 1.8T is just good for going arond town? Go to waterfest or ND Show in CA.. A Basic chipped 1.8T puts more power then the Audi 3.0 V6. And if you start playing with it more, you can get some major power. 300hp is not rare on the VW forums and i would assume the same with the Audi guys. But i dont like small motor/turbo setups so that is why i have a 2.8 V6 Passat 4Mo.

Pfft, fuck that Audi. I have a Triumph TR250 waiting for me.

One day, I'm hopefully gonna put triple Webber's on it.
And yes dukenukem, we all know I can't drive.
