since vipers site doesn't exist and I can't seem to find a place where episodes are discussed... thought I would put it here.
Just wna ask when Jeremy just fixed the wipers and he accelerated onto the highway... was he going like 110kph or mph?... if its mph...
I agree with viper and all the other people who said its the best episode of the season... hopefully they would air something even better on boxing day

The look on James' face when he was in the rally car was priceless.
That F1 car really put into perspective how fast they corner.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they just dressed Renault's test driver in white and just called him The Stig.

Nope, definitely MPH. He was driving a RHD UK version, after all.

He was doing 160mph+ in the DB9 wasn't he?

When he was driving toward Monaco in the dark, he had speedometer shots in the 120+ region.
I don't think the show ever explicitly showed him going any faster than that.

Yeah, stig probaby even gets paid a bit too.
Damon Hill is still my best bet though, but that one guy in viper's forums said it was a blonde guy called rob, mid 30's ?

I agree, one of the best TG's ever...
I think the Stig impressed us all with the F1 car....wow!!!! I also really liked the bobsled thing...Hammond's quote as pointed out above had me ROFLMAO

The blonde dude from Jeremys movies is Rod (maybe Rob) Fountain, I did a little search couldn't find much but maybe he is the stig, I think this needs its own thread

I didn't find the Stig's pace in the F1 car to be that impressive.
An Enzo at Fiorano does a lap in 1:25 (or was it 1:27?) and the Ferrari F1 car does a lap in 53 seconds...that's a 32 second difference.
However, the stig only managed a 21 second difference on a similar length track. Whatever, it was still fun.

it was a cold track and for all we know it could be his first time in a F1 car

^ Not to mention a wet track...the tail danced around a bit. I'm not much of an F1 fan, so I can't rate the Stig as an F1 driver very accurately, but if I look at how he took that car around in those kind of conditions, I'm awed. I would kill for the opportunity to someday take an F1 car out for a coupla laps.
And no, they wouldn't be that good.

I'm not calling the Stig a bad driver; I'm well aware of the conditions and he probably isn't a very experienced F1 driver...just saying that the F1 car should be able to go faster than that around the track with more practice/better conditions.

His first lap in an F1 car?
....Yeah right..
here you go stiggie, I hope you don't crash my multimillion car..
But it's my first time in an F1?!
No problem...you got to start somewhere...in wet...

not really, the track is shorter because the Enzo takes about 13 seconds less per lap and it was wet for the F1 and not for the enzo so let's say you remove the same 4 seconds they normally add for a wet lap and redo the proportions...
85secs/53secs = 1.60
73secs(if my memory is right)/55secs=1.32
not as good but still impressive and it shows that he did drive F1's before

I think his time around the track compared to the road cars shows that he is not very experienced in F1 racing... this could rule Damon Hill out as the stig

The music for most of the race was that used during the freeway chase scene from "Matrix Reloaded". (There was even one shot of Hammond looking over his bobsled bar that duplicated, both musically and visually) the shot of Trinity on her motorbike just before jumping onto the freeway!) In my opinion, this race was viscerally more thrilling than the movie's freeway chase !
I wish Clarkson et al would acknowledge the FANTASTIC talent of the post-production crew in making them all look great. Top Gear is nearly cinematic in scope at times, and makes every other car show out there pale in comparison!

More specifically, the song used is "Mona Lisa Overdrive" by Juno Reactor. You can find it on the Matrix Revolutions soundtrack.

I like how they filmed the Aston Martin vs Ferrari 575 in the rain at the end of the Zonda Roadster Episode, the water effect on the tires was way too cool
that's why it's my favorite episode

The best bet is that the stig has driven F1 in the past but not recently...hence the tail out when he powerd out of that bend...
furthermore track lengh is only partly to blame for lap times...they said that they fitted the monaco steering rack for the TG test track...meaning it has alot of twists to deal with...meaning closer sterring ratios...basing the stigs experience in an F1 car on his lap time on 2 tracks is silly...unless the 2 tracks have the same corners...and distance
