If you're in Europe get the Skoda Octavia Estate 4x4 , with the 1,9 TDI engine (130 HP) and the 6 speed manual transmission . A friend of mine has oe and I drove it a couple of times . Excellent car .

I'd DEFINATELY go for the Subaru Legacy.
VWs look kind of bloated, the Legacy is sharper but still conservative.
And unlike VW, Subaru specializes in symmetrical all-wheel drive.
They provide it on all models, so their AWD technology is much more advanced.
And I just got one and it's GREAT!!
I live in Toronto and we just got dumped with snow x_x
I saw people skidding and sliding, but i safely drove past them in my Legacy.
Symmetrical AWD rocks!!

Plus, ur on a budget right?
Well then when it some to AWD sedans, I think the Legacy is the most affordable option.
First of all, what's the 1st priority/use the AWD vehicle for?

Don't forget the X Type. Well, on second thoughts- do forget it.

OMG I forgot the X-type! I love the X-type; it's the only Jag I'd ever want to own.

My family is also considering an all-wheel-drive sedan/wagon. I like the Legacy, definitely has the best all-wheel-drive system, but all the others are nice too.

Oh, don't get me wrong.
The other ones look nice too, especially Audi

But besides the looks, we got the Legacy cuz it was more affordable.

Yeah, the Audi would be my second choice, and then probably the G35X or the S40

AWD isnt = offroad! Many sportcars have it for better traction.

They used to bring Alfas to the states, so there are a few older ones around ('80s and early '90s)
