i just got this email from the editor/marketing guy at Modified Mag:
Hello,
First off, let me introduce myself, my name is Tania Inverso and I am responsible for partnerships and promotions with Modified Luxury & Exotics Magazine (http://www.modifiedle.com), the fastest growing publication for high end vehicle modifications, and automotive lifestyle covering BMW, Mercedes Benz, Ferrari, Cadillac, Corvette, Porsche, Hummer and many others.
Modified L&E has set new industry standards in so many ways with in-depth product reviews and project coverage to showcase the latest in auto modifications, cutting edge feature cars from around the world showcasing the latest in performance, audio/visual, and appearance upgrades. In all, Modified L&E reaches drivers who own high-end vehicles, and those who aspire to.
I was on your website and was very impressed with its look, feel and overall professionalism. I am interested in running some promotions on www.dieselstation.com.
At Modified L&E, we have an affiliate program that is modeled after Modified Magazine's successful program of over 75 participants. The program is on a "CONTRA" (FREE) basis. To further explain the program, we would feature your website in our web directory which is featured monthly in our magazine (see attached), as well as feature www.dieselstation.com on www.modifiedle.com in our affiliate section. And in turn, Modified L&E asks that we are advertised on your website.
More specifically, I am interested in the following:
- a jpeg. of the cover of Modified L&E on the front page of your website
- a sticky post in the forums section of your website
- exposure in the discussion forum areas of your website
- banner placement
These placements will give you exposure to some of the top advertising agencies, and aftermarket companies that look at our magazine each month, as well as over 500,000 enthusiasts that read our magazine and surf our website.
I look forward to getting something underway.
Best Regards,
Tania Inverso

Modified Magazine
here's what it'll look like in the magazine

and here's a picture of the magazine they want (it'll probably be a lot smaller for the website)

so.. should we go for it? get some Magazine exposure in exchange for a few banners/sticky topics?

Go for it. I mean if the banners get too much for visitors then you can always stop it. With more viewers = More clicks of banners = more revenue for you. I just hope your host can handle it.

Sounds like work.

I don't think you should go for it. It doesn't really give you anything but a link. Also, it might bring too many new members. I'm not saying there is anything bad about new members, I'm one myself, but too many might ruin the sense of community we have here.

Does Dieselstation need more exposure? Only you, Diesel, can answer that. Do you have plans for the site?
I don't think there is much value to DS, just an attempt by the magazine to get more exposure for themselves.

Yeah we would probably get a bunch of stupid in here. What would this do for the moderating team too? Would these people have any control over the forums?
Ugh contracts.

no.. they don't control anything. all they want is a banner and a stickied thread.
but.. hmm.. another side of the argument is the people that actually READ that magazine. are they mostly people into Bling Bling? or are they mostly people like us who love exotics and stuff?
cuz those readers are the ones that are going to be coming to our site.

I realize that people like the small community we have, but honestly Diesel, you've gotta move on in life
Get a larger user base and expand. You can always find a webmaster or two who will be willing to help you out with new websites.
You can either keep Dieselstation the same size it is now with a few users here and there, or you could expand much more. Personally, I would go the expansion route. Once you get more visitors, that will mean larger profits from ads and if you open up another website or two, it could be a nice small business or something.
Take this opportunity and see where you can take this website

Yeah but I don't know if we want THIS kind of attention aga.

The kind of attention we'd get would be from EXTREME ricers, and black wannabe rappers with caprices on 26's. So i'm not sure.

All in all it’s up to you, but I say go for it. If anything it will help the site and the photographers on here get more exposure. lol It could also bring in more $$$… All the people that come to the site from the magazine will probably click on the google ads at least once.

HELL NO. I WON TWO CONTESTS FROM THEM AND HAVE YET TO RECIEVE A PRIZE OR A MAGAZINE SINCE SUBSRCIBING BUT I SURE AS HELL GOT A BILL! FUCK THEM DIESEL.

EDIT* I FORGOT TO SAY THEY NEVER SHOWED UP TO SEE MY CAR EITHER. edit* I'd also like to say this proves how small the world is and how things come back to bite you in the ass.

Fill up the majority of our glorious online home, for a teeny weeny itty bitty space on their magazine?
I don't even want the exposure, I feel less comfortable and too shy in big forums

But thats just me, it's Diesel's choice and if he gets paid for it - I certainly would'nt turn down the offer either!
Zlover07
Dec 1 2004, 08:28 PM
I don't really see this bringing in much revenue, what I predict is that we might have a surge of new people, some of which would fit in, and others we'd just piss off and they'd go their merry way thinking that the more you make your car look like a transformer with chrome, the better it is.
Basically, if its just a direct trade of advertising space, I don't see the point because we'll just piss them off laughing at their "Escalades on 27's" and what not. A different car magazine maybe, but this one, I'm not so sure. With all that said, those are just my predictions and whatever diesel choses, I'm tres froid with it. Plus, this won't be a binding contract or anything, so you can always just back down, as has been mentioned... and then let Dakian go on an infant-mauling, ego-crushing banning campaign. (We all know that you've always wanted to

)

With more exposure brings more idiots, and if you're not getting paid, do we really need more exposure? What will it give us? Just a slower server and more people to deal with.
