Alright so my brother is looking for a new car and it looks as if he's into the 3 cars above. He likes'em all but can't decide on the better car. Uhm, he's looking for more power and handling than comforts. He doesn't need too much cargo space either and wants a good reliable but good looking, unique car. If he opts for the Mazda he said he'd get it in red with the sport grill. Nissan will be blue and Honda will be black.

He would wait for it but he needs a car ASAP, his old Jaguar is a REALLY but hassle and the approx cost to fix it all would exceed $7000. He's not willing to spend that money on it and if he doesn't, it probably won't make it through the winter

He's looking to buy a new car within the next few weeks, before the snow.

ok ... nissan ... eeew ...
the honda inspire (which in NA is the FAKE Honda Accord) ... no ...
so ... that just leaves the mazda 6 ...
if he likes that ... i'd recommend the mazda 6 hatchback ...
it looks like a regular sedan ... but the trunk opens like a hatch ...
hmmm ...
has ur brother thought about the REAL honda accord ...

in NA, the honda accord is marketed as the Acura TSX ...
that's a nice car ...
or wut about the new Subaru Legacy??

that's a sharp car ... good engine ...
and loaded with all-wheel-drive ...
BOTH cars won the Car of the Year Japan award in their respective years ...
so ... they are the best of the best ...
i personally drive the new Legacy ... and it's a great car ...
the all-wheel-drive has also helped me out a lot ...

i say go for the altima. it starts at $23,000 and it has 250hp
:edit: I don't know what his price range is but the altima comes in a SE-R package($29,200) that has 260hp, a 6 speed manual, 18" forged-alloy wheels, high-flow exhaust, and performance suspension and brakes.

the Subaru Legacy is BRAND NEW!!
it was completely redesigned for this year ...
and since it's still new ...
not many ppl drive it ... so it's still unique ...
and living in canada ...
i've never seen a subaru with all-wheel-drive get stuck in the snow
the base price is $27, 000 (CAN)
which is cheap ... cuz other companies charge a lot for all-wheel-drive ...
and he has kids!!
the new Legacy is one of the safest cars in the world ...
and with airbags everywhere ...
his kids will be safe

Well, if he wants a unique car then he should rule out the Altima, and the Honda is focused more on comfort than it is on sport, so that leaves the Mazda. I think the Subaru Legacy would be a better choice than the Mazda 6 though.

it's a total ripoff.
my advice: get the accord. It's the beste at just being a car.
if your brother wants more from a car than A-B transit, then try something like the 6s or the 3.5SE. Although the Legacy 2.5GT is probably his best bet for reserved and powerful.

I would only go for the Legacy it it was the GT(250hp), and that starts around $26-27k (might be too high). If it was the 2.5i Legacy(168hp) then my vote would still be for the 3.5 Altima.

Recalls have little to do with reliability; in this age of increasingly complex cars, recalls are par for the course. Not to mention how many of them are really insignificant issues.
Fords, in the last few years, have produced cars of above-average reliability, and the only problem I've seen between three Mazdas I've had personal experience with is a faulty coolant sensor in my mom's Tribute (basically a Ford Escape).

Mazda 6 is a pretty good car, good handling, decent power and reasonably priced. As for Legacy GT, there are some pros and cons for this Subaru. I love its styling, AWD, power, lots of room and stuff. In fact I got own3d by my friend's GT with Azenis tires up the mountain, I have no excuse to my "going downhill" driving skill

But the downside is, it's a goddamn gas guzzler! Same as my little punk ass dinosaur (STi) Damn turbo cars...

all-wheel-drive is like that. but on an interesting note, the base Subie Impreza uses more gas than the larger base Subie Legacy. The Impreza has a greater drag coefficient.

Because sadly, most of the world is just as over-opininated and ignorant as you.
1) Ford historically has horrible reliability. They might be getting better lately, but that might just be that NONE OF THEM HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE LATELY.
2) Of the three cars you listed, the best is the Mazda6. Of the other cars that people have suggested, I also like the Volvo S40 T5, but the price is kind of high on that car. It's a Volvo, so it's incredibly safe.

I voted for the 6, but if the Legacy was up there, I would have voted for that. I think your brother should definitely go for the Legacy. When it comes time to replace our aging (165,000 miles) Jeep Grand Cherokee, my family is probably going to get a new Legacy.

The 6 is a very nice car. One of my coworkers has one, and he really likes it. It's a nice big car with plenty of room for passengers, but doesn't feel like a big car. There's also a pretty good aftermarket community for it. My coworker has the basic stuff, exhaust, and intake, and the car sounds and feels great.
That new Legacy sure does look nice though.
