Wrong tires for the condition. Heavy car like that, pushing forward against a hard turn with the wrong tires on a wet surface... his backend was pushing the car forward with not enough traction in the front to do anything about it. Also, he probably slammed on the brakes when he saw that the car was going the wrong direction, further making things worse as the tires lock up.

A normal person would take it easy when driving such a car in those conditions. It was the driver's fault.
