JVC's new camcorder. has a 4gb mini hard drive like the mini ipod, and does mpeg2 dvd quality. and.. damnit! it just loooooks awesome.

Raw video takes up about a gig every 20 minutes, I think.

Eh, that sucks. It would be cool if it had something like a CF card or something.

If it used microdrives, that would be nice, but CF cards are too small and slow right now for that application.

Or just a bigger drive, like the ipod does.

Actually, I am pretty sure that CF cards have the capabiliy to be MUCH faster than any disk drive.

You'd be surprised; they're actually really slow.

Perhaps I am thinking of solid state harddrives instead. those would rip even the fastest SCSI RAID array to shreds speedwise.

CF's are only faster in the sense that they have NO seek time at all. If they started making affordable CF cards with DDR memory, they could potentially be faster.

Also, the camera. For the going rate of that, I'd probably go ahead and get a really nice 2mp minidv camcorder which has a hotshoe so I could use external lights and microphones, and a bunch of extra lenses

can't really use "DDR" memory cuz those need huge amounts of power and they lose their memory once the power is gone. it's good for fast and massive data transfering, but really bad for data storage.

DDR ROM maybe, not the RAM chips. But the power would be an issue. As well as cost.

iirc, you would want the memory to be nonvolitile, a quality which is nonexistant in DDR ram.
