Far from strippo... Leather is not rare at all, 95% of the cars have aircon, most are automatics with cruise control and they're always all electic. And the 200 or 220 CDI engine is more than adequate to move Benz's around as long as speeds closing 120mph aren't needed. The BMW I'm driving is 525d, that's maybe a little too powerful for the purpose. BUT: there are some crazy ass taxis around... V70R and X5 are the first to come into mind.
VW Passat, Volvo V70 and S80, Peugeot 406, Toyota Avensis and Mazda6 are pretty common, but as I said, about half are MB's, C, E and S-class
BTW, if I bought an own taxicab, I'd go for either for a Volvo V70 D5 or Skoda Superb TDI
