Saturn's new ION Red Line quad coupe raced into the record book at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Wendover, Utah, Friday, October 17, 2003, establishing a new mark in the G/Blown Fuel Altered class at 212.684 mph. The record-setting Saturn eclipsed the previous record by almost 30 mph. The previous record of 183.086 mph was set in 2001 by a Honda Civic. The Saturn is based on the new factory-built ION Red Line sport compact and powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine.

Impressive.

meh, i could build faster.

all you need is a built chevy small block + twin turbos (1000hp+) and an 80's firebird to drop the engine into. (no suspension work or anything required)

Hell, back in the 80's, Barry Grant hit 299mph in a stock firebird exept with a twin turbo'ed big block in it.

In 1982, the Firebird was the most aerodynamic production car in the world.

The whole point is its supposed to be a blown 4cyl. No V8s allowed. Also I read up on the Honda and they just used regular gas, they beat the record anyway without using beefier fuel. Not sure what the Saturn was running.

Whats with Saturn lately with trying to make sporty and fast cars? heh

Saturns are really good cars... I like the idea of their free-rusting bodies. They're good for how new they are.
Cyclone
free-rusting?
clarkma5
Is that sarcasm or not??? huh.gif
DakianDelomast
Plastic body panels i think he means.
clarkma5
Ohhhhh, rust-free, free-rusting, I get it!

Sorry, I'm a stupid Canadian.

Half is genetics, half is not your fault.
clarkma5
Wait a minute...wouldn't that be the same half???
rio
He's a canadian. I have to explain things simply.

There was nothing simple about contradicting yourself! tongue_orig.gif
