Diesel

everywhere i go.. people say Arco is the worst kind of gas you can put in your car, yet i know people who have been using it for years without a problem. INCLUDING myself. now let's settle this once and for all..
Where did that myth come from?
Why is ARCO considered bad gas? is it because it's cheaper? is it because the other brands somehow do something magical to theres?
ARCO is a brand of BP and i've never heard bad things about BP.. so why does ARCO get teh bad rep?

My understanding of Arco is that their fuel has a higher alchohol content, and has less viscosity (aka less lubrication) as a result, so it results in somewhat higher friction in the cylinder, and the alchohol also eats away at rubber fuel hoses quicker. Not sure if that's true, but that is my understanding of it.

And why the cost of other petroleum based products has NOT increased. Plastics, regular motor oil, etc.
Is Arco a brand?

That's the price
tax-exempt commercial vehicles pay for diesel.
Private vehicles pay about the same for diesel as low-test gasoline.

There are two ways to sell a product, one is making a profit by selling high volume and the other is by selling less at a higher price. ARCO sells more gas with the lower price to make its profit, the big thing everyone needs to know is ALL gas is equal before it hits the station. The reason ARCO has gotten a bad rap is there are some stations that may add water or something to it to make higher profit, but you can have this happen at any station. If a refinery was making gas and putting additives the fine would be in the millions of dollars, but there are enough gas stations that some can get away with it.
California has all refineries gasoline combined into tanks that ALL stations take out of, from there it goes to the station where additives like Techron and the other special stuff is added.

ive never head of ARCO.
And belive it or not, water/alchohol in the gasoline is actually a GOOD thing. (to an extent) It helps prevent detonation. But then again water can make the internal tank parts rust quicker, and alchohol can eat away at the rubber fuel hoses.
Alot of high boost forced induction guys run a water/alky injection system to prevent detonation.

At work yesterday, I bought ~8,000 gallons of T-1 Diesel at $1.32/gal.
Now if only I could buy like that at the pump...

Arco is just a cheaper mix and therefore less quality mix of gasoline and shit they add in.
Although when gas is $2.30+ a gallon like it is here, a few cents can make a difference...

i've never gotten arco, so i have no idea if its bad or good or what. i usually buy safeway gas, its usually cheaper than everyone else and if you're a club member you save 3c a gallon, i've had no problems with it after a year and a half+ of buying it
