http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=840582I couldnt imagine what it would be like to have to go through somthing like this. I have never experienced a fire like that and I think it would be so hard to have to get up and leave and watch everything you own and cherish burn to the ground.

Damn, thats really bad. Especially about the dog, i know for a fact that both of my dogs would have done the same thing for me, i dont know how i could deal with losing them if such a thing ever did happen. But unfortunatly about 5 years ago something like that almost did happen to me and my family.
The fire started in the garage about 1:00am. We had alot of antique german furniture in it being stored and refernished. (So alot of mineral spirits, paint thinner, flamable stuff, rags, etc.) My grandmothers room is right next to the garage, and my room directly over it.
We had a flourescent light in the garage, directly above one of the tables my grandmother was refinishing. On the table was a closed bottle of paint thinner and some lightly soaked rags. Somehow, the light above the table maflunctioned and caught on fire, some of the parts fell onto the rags which caught on fire too, and got the paint thinner hot enough to melt the plastic lid on top releasing paint thinner fumes. The paint thinner can got so hot that it melted, releasing even more paint thinner spilling all over the place and catching on fire. A chain reaction i guess you would call it.
By this time the smoke alarm in the hallway leading to the garage went off and my dogs started barking. My grandmother and both of our dogs came up to my room to wake me up, i woke up my mom and my brother. I told them to go outside and call the police at our neighbors house. I ran downstairs and grabbed the garage door opener and uses it to open the garage door. It was like the whole garage was glowing an orange so bright you could not even look at it, the heat was very very intense. I ran back through the house into my backyard and turned on the waterhose right next to the rear garage door. I sprayed the door handle so i could touch it and open the door. I then sprayed the base of where most of the flames were comming from. If i had not taken shop class in school, i would have probably never known to do this. It worked like a charm, i was soaking the walls and ceiling with water so they would not catch on fire either, while working my way into the garage to turn off the natural gas source to the furnace and water heater. By this time my mom arrived and kept yelling for me to get the fuck out of the garage, i told her to grab the water hose in the front yard to help me combat the flames. A couple minutes later we had all the flames out, and just steam was comming up off the floor because thats how hot it got.
About 5 minutes later the fire dept arrived expecting a fire, but it was out. They left as quickly as they had came. But the inspector and a paramedic stayed behind, he was the one who later told us that the light was what caushed the fire. He also said that if me and my mom would not have taken action as quickly as we did, the house would have been too far in flames for maybe even the fire dept. to handle and come out with a house left.
If that smoke alarm had not been installed in the very location it was, it could have delayed the events by a minute or two, and it probably would have been too late. We installed even more smoke alarms after this had happened.
In the end, we lost everything in the garage exept for a deep freezer, insurance replaced everything they could exept for the antique stuff, which they gave us good money for stuff they could not replace. They also got a crew to come out and clean our whole house and everything we owned which smelled like soot, they even repainted the whole place.
EDIT: And then about 6 months later, one of the trees in our backyard caught on fire because the power lines which ran through the trees wore bare after time and contacted, resulted in huge flashes and bangs of sparks. That was pretty cool to watch, the fire dept had to get VA Power to come out and shut down power to the whole block so they could put it out without getting electricuted.

Damn, I nearly cried reading about his dog. That's really sad, as is losing everything like this. Glad he got out though, a house and possessions are replacable but a life is not.

I love dogs so much. I feel very bad for the dog. Dogs are so innocent. If I seen my dog burnt up I would be so mad.

Yeah I know what you mean. As much as I hate my moms little yappy Chihuaha's, I'd really hate to see anything bad happen to them. Dog's act like little dumb fuckers but when it comes down to it they really have a deep love for their owners. Hell, even cats do but they fail to show it most of the time.
Also after reading all these I feel the need to go out and buy some smoke detectors. We only have one and it's in the hallway. I doubt it even works...

My dad is saftey freak, got a fire detector in every room(tested every weekend sunday). Got a extingusiher on every level. Also got carbon monoxide dectors all over the place. I think my dad loves his family a lot, we've got some super duper insurance covering everyone. He likes to be safe.
In my city, stealing dogs is getting popular, if somone steals mine, I would probably open a keg of kick ass. If someone ever fucks around with my dog, they should expect to get their face broken.
I also, am amazed that the wheels melted. Wow.
