I'm shocked. Granted it was not quite as entertaining as Top Gear and the last season felt a bit stretched thin, it was nonetheless enjoyable and talked about everything that Top Gear never bothered with.

You're right, it isnt official (yet?).

Meh, some executives probably axed it and one of them leaked it to the press before addressing the actual Fifth Gear people to GTFO. Not like a situation like that hasn't happened before...

Fifth Gear went to shit after they went to a full hour format. A lot of the segments just felt like filler...

I never really watched Fifth Gear. My problem is I don't like watching TV, I prefer reading. Fifth Gear just felt like I was watching a magazine...TG was genuine entertainment. Then later, Fifth Gear tried to become more like TG...it just felt like a copycat show.
dukenukem
I stopped watching FG around 2007.

Never watched it.

I did see the next season of TG is going to be in HD, YAY happy2.gif happy2.gif

It was good considering what it was. But yea that 1 hour format the last 2 seasons or so most of the time seemed so dry. Really enjoyed some bits, but majority was meh. It's a shame, hopefully TG is not headed that way, and something better comes out the ashes of FG!
Bjorn
It was an acceptable alternative to TG. The past two seasons have been the best IMO, the presenters really seemed to gel.

I'm sure it'll live on in some format.

Fifth Gear at its best was comparable to average Top Gear, IMO. I liked it for many reasons...the presenters are less obnoxiously biased than the Top Gear guys and less prone to spewing misinformation. They're also all legitimately excellent drivers, and by that I mean as racing drivers, not as showy drivers for the camera like Jeremy is. They tend to be more factual and stick to a more conventional road test format, which is useful (even if it's not emmy-winning). What I really don't like about Fifth Gear is how much effort they spent trying to be relevant to the average motorist, it got kinda annoying. That and their crash tests that they trumped up like they were a gift from god. Hey, it's interesting to investigate what happens when a normal family car runs into the back of a tractor, but please stop selling it to me as if you were hocking shit on the home shopping network, please.

That would be too bad if it is true. I didn't love the show but I liked Tiff and VBH. Sure it was a TG knockoff lately, but they drove some cars that fell through the Top Gear cracks, and I enjoyed the show when I saw it. It is at least the second best car show around.
Bjorn
VBH was really annoying. I didn't miss her from the last season.

For damn sure it's better than ANYTHING on the SPEED channel.

Except the 12 seconds of Le Mans they air before going back to NASCAR.

Is it bad that sometimes I blur my eyes when I watch Overhaulin' and imagine that they're putting new coilovers on an old Stratos? Those redneck SPEED shows are good except for the cars and what they do to the cars.
