This came down the rumor mill. I was speculating today over the future of GM models that have ended production due to the cutting of brands by GM. He told me that he heard G8 will not be rebranded as a Chevy. But more oddly he told me that he had heard of plans for a the Solstice to be produced as new DeLorean. I can't find anything on this other than drawings of a tarted up Solstice coupe.
"New" DeLorean. Motortrend doesn't give any more information.I wouldn't bet the farm on this. If it does happen I'm sure quantities will be very limited, and why pay extra for a DMC Solstice when you can probably just get a used Pontiac?

I saw this on Autoblog too. Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
The G8 will be a cop car.

Why not just buy an original DeLorean?

GM couldn't move the Sky/Solstice in respectable numbers (past initial demand of course) as it was. What makes DMC think that by mildly tweaking the aesthetics, offering limited numbers, and slapping on a badge that has little or no pull in today's market, is going to make these cars a sales success? What it needs is a completely redesigned interior, with a significant reworking of the handling bits...neither of which DMC is going to bother with. And no, a flux capacitator will not help the sales case.

But what if the flux capacitor was made out of solid /gold/!? It'd make a killing in sales in the arabic countries!
Pearl white DMC with a gold flux? Yeah I could see that working.

Well, you'd have to be on coke to buy one.

hey, I wouldn't mind having one as a novelty item. I'm a huge fan of the BTTF trilogy so it'd have extra value to me than just being another quirky car in the history of cars.

did they improve the flux capacitor so you only need to speed up to something less than 88mph?

Could a DMC-12 even reach 88 mph? These things were pretty heavy and didn't have much power.

Uh.
It weighs 2700lbs and the top speed is rated at 168km/h.

Which is faster than 88mph.

Well, Phix, you told me. I thought they weight more in the 3800 - 4000 pound range. How long did it take to get to 104mph? A few hours and a 10 mile stretch of road?
Phix
Oct 9 2009, 06:53 PM
Well, I did some more reading up on it and there are varying specs for it.
From what I've found the DMC-12 weighs anywhere from 2700lbs to 3100lbs.
The top speed for the AUTOMATIC is 168km/h (or 104mph for you stone age people) OR 177km/h (109mph) with the manual.
And it's clocked at 0 to 160km/h in 34 seconds.
0 to 100km/h in 8.8 seconds while the automatic was clocked at 0 to 100km/h in 10 seconds.
Now these stats were apparently taken from the 1978 DMC-12 (European Spec) with a V6 producing 168hp and 173lb-ft o' torque as opposed to the 130hp which I believe the North American DMC-12s produced.
In conclusion,

1. They're blog posts. Internet writing is supposed to be short.
2. I didn't post up the conversion in reference of the argument of over or under 88 MPH thing. I was just posting up a conversion because I had to look it up, and thought it was kind of funny.
3. You've been a jackass lately and each of your rants become less and less significant with each one you post.

But, what the hell newspapers do you read where a picture is longer than the entire length of the article if they were both lined up and put side by side?
