Got the tickets to US smile.gif

Flying over to NY on the 7th of October.
next: Boston to LA on the 13th,
next: LA to NY on the 19th.
We'll be leaving NY on the 22nd back to Europe.

I've been to US before, but never for vacation smile.gif

So we need some advice. We have a place to stay in NY.
Any recommendation/suggestions where to stay in Boston for 2/3 nights? And in LA from the 13th to 19th? Car rental suggestions in LA?

I'm sure we would love to go see beautiful fall in New England, The Grand Canyon in AZ and national parks in CA.
Also we'd like to see something core-american biggrin.gif like NFL, NBA game or Baseball. Recommend/suggest/offer please!
YES, I know i can find all this to book online, but first wanted to ask if somebody from you guys have something to offer?
At least lets have a small international DS meet smile.gif

In Boston I'll be traveling with my wife. From the 13th we'll be joined by one more girl, my wife's friend. biggrin.gif and know this sounds good smile.gif
Little about me if curious: Me and my wife are 28, we are both a little car biased biggrin.gif Currently we have S2000, and Scion tC (both imported from US).
For photoshooting I use pentax gear. Complete amateur in this field, but knowledge is slowly picking up smile.gif

If we could arrange something, I will be happy to bring you really old soviet film photo camera FED 3 with original leather case as a present.

Please get back to me if you have any ideas or questions. I would really appreciate this! Thanks!

You have a few options.. Enterprise and Hertz offers exotic/fun rentals if you'd like to drive something nice while in LA. If money isn't an object, you can easily search for "exotic car rental in LA" and find a ton of companies that rent out sports cars from the Lotus line all the way up to Ferrari.

Once you got some slick wheels, take it up to Pacific Coast Highway(Hwy 1) and have a nice scenic cruise with vista points for photographs.

The drive to just get into AZ from LA is roughly 6 hours, so you may want to consider flying to save time. Southwest and JetBlue offer very affordable rates if booked ahead of time, as well as booking midweek flights.

Since you'll either be in NY, LA, or Boston, your choice of baseball games won't be short. In NY you can attend a Yankees game(who actually just clinched a playoff berth for the 1st time in a few years) or Mets game, a Red Sox game in Boston, a Dodgers game in LA or an Angels game a bit south of LA. The Dodgers/Mets/Angels games will typically be cheaper than a Red Sox or Yankees game, and tickets are usually available through the teams respective websites. The playoffs are coming up too, so be weary of ticket prices and availability.

If you want to watch an NFL game, you may be better off being in the NY/Boston area because LA does not have a team. However, due to the great choice of teams in that area, ticket availability will be a bit scarce due to the popularity of these teams. Your coice between the teams are the Buffalo Bills, NY Jets, NY Giants, and New England Patriots. If you just want to see a game, your best bet in getting affordable and available tickets would probably be a NY Jets game.

As far as the NBA season goes, There will be many popular choices as well. You have the NY Knicks, Boston Celtics, NJ Nets, LA Lakers, and LA Clippers. However, Lakers/Celtics/Knicks tickets will be quite difficult to obtain due to the popularity of these teams.

I don't have anything to offer personally, but this hopefully will be a good start for you.

I might be up in NYC on the 21st, also, I know the city very well, so I'll let you know. Good luck!

I'm in NYC Oct 7-11 thumbs_up.gif Where are you staying? Let's hope for good weather!
Razor
I will be back in/around Boston that weekend, most likely. Too bad there isn't anyone else from the Boston area who posts regularly here sad.gif, we could have had a bigger meet.
Dr. Strangelove
I just moved to LA, and I know that there are a ton of other DSers around here. I would be more than willing to meet up for a beer or so when you are in town.

Forget about me already? At least I'm not in Boston at the moment, but I will be biggrin.gif

If you're gonna be in Boston, hybr1d, check out the New England Patriots and catch a game!
Phix
what country are you coming from?
UserDrew
I hear south central is really beautiful this time of year!

I have not forgotten about you! I will be back the weekend of October 10th, then again at Thanksgiving. One of those times, we will meet up, I assure you.
hybr1d
Thanks everybody for your input: skr, nismo, infinity, razor, Dr. Strangelove, Blackjack, UserDrew..
It would be great to meet at least one of you smile.gif

You have a few options..

Renting some fancy wheels in LA would be great, however not this time smile.gif We tend to be more practical in cases like that and probably we'll go with some medium size sedan like g6, avenger, charger. Maybe something more reliable - Rav4? Boring, I know. However - budget is very limited these days sad.gif
We do not mind driving 6hrs from LA to Grand Canyon, and stayind there (advise some place, please), and going back. This is what we will be there for - to see the country. This will be exausting, for sure.

QUOTE(Phix)

We come from a small county Lithuania. Probably something you've never heard of, unless you're good in basketball smile.gif Last year we lived in Sweden, and we travel in EU a lot.

Looking forward to that!

I was in Boston in Y2003 (loved it!), and remember the madness that was there. Everybody was crazy about the Patriots and Tom Brady (?). Correct me if i'm wrong with the name.

Razor, Infinity, Dr. Strangelove: waiting for your PMs smile.gif would be glad to meet you if you have time.

So maybe someone has to offer a place to stay in Boston or LA? This remains the big question for the time beeing. Could you suggest something in particular?
We just dont want to get ripped off by booking online some random place in an unseen area. And budget is tight these days smile.gif We're simple, not picky smile.gif

Or lets just meet for a beer or two in NY, Boston or anywhere else biggrin.gif maybe go and see the game or something smile.gif

post here or PMs are welcome!

I've heard of and know where Lithuania is, k thnx. I'm Canadian, not American. We actually look at maps and study geography and realize that the world doesn't revolve around us.
hybr1d
Cannot agree on that, but must admit - there are people that ask if we have trees in Lithuania. In general- it depends on who are you dealing with. I've met very bright people in US that knew about my country more than i did.
Of course, sometimes it sucks when the country that you come from is known for serial killers and robbers and "Lithuanians with sharp teeth crawling up the beach with golf clubs to beat your brains out" (as Mel Gibson famously put it).
If you'd be interested in history you'd find that once we were the biggest country in Europe. But who cares now anyway - i don't biggrin.gif

DS_Wink.gif Lets stick to the topic.

Sorry to leave the topic for another second, but my entire family on my mother's side is from your neighbor to the north, Latvia. thumbs_up.gif

Is it too soon to make jokes about taking flights from Boston to LA?
dukenukem
Come to texas where the beer is cold, the women are hot and gas is cheap!
skr
Then for a rental, PayLess and Dollar Rent-A-Car would be your best bet for budget minded economy cars. I would search for Grand Canyon Tours and see which tour suites you best. Sometimes the tour package will include some type of accomodations too.

i'm down to buy you a beer too Hybrid!
Dr. Strangelove
Hybrid, let us know when you have some free time in LA and we can try to make time to met you.
hybr1d
Agreed smile.gif Looks like we've found a place to stay in Sunland, CA. Little off the LA center but whatever. Driving is fun biggrin.gif
Jacob Photo
If you want to shoot some motorsports, the finals for Formula D (drifting) are in LA on October 16-17, you should apply for media and come shoot some pics.

places to go in LA - walk down venice beach and check out the weirdos, cruise thru the sites of hollywood, hit up disneyland / universal studios / knotts berry farm / 6 flags, maybe check out Pirates Dinner Adventure or Medievil Times (both are by Knotts Berry Farm)....

as for a place to stay - you may want to check craigslist.org, you might be able to get a week long rental for a decent price.
skr
Sunland? hmm.. that's pretty far from the metro areas..
hybr1d
Skr: we'll drive arround. no problem with that i guess. or is there something special we should now?

Jacob: thanks! I'm taking the girls with me to formulaD event you offered. anyone from DS going there?
Jacob Photo
i'll be there fri and sat. look for the white guy with the "rice picking" hat. I'm hard to miss...
hybr1d
okey smile.gif anybody for a beer or two in Boston area? Currently we are in Burlington... with not working Navigation. Fun/Hardcore smile.gif
