Full Version: New M7?!?!

BMW's Motorsport division said it would never tune an SUV, yet they've gone back on their word on that one. Does that leave room for a big-daddy M7? Looks like a definite "maybe."

Spied by a reader of MotorTips, this odd looking BMW 7-series was parked at a supermarket in a town roughly 100km outside of Munich, Germany. At first glance it appears as if this BMW 7 was merely modified by its owner with new quad-exhaust, bigger black-painted wheels and lower profile tires, but the badges appear to be covered in order to mask the cars identity. Upon closer inspection, it appears as if this suped-up seven may in fact be a early build prototype for an upcoming BMW M7 super sedan.

BMW has never officially mentioned an M version of its luxurious 7-Series sedan, but with the AMG-tuned Mercedes S63 and Audi S8 gobbling up sales, albeit in small numbers, it only makes sense that BMW gets into this game. Also adding pressure is Aston Martin's upcoming Rapide and Porsche's ghastly Panamera, two luxo-sport sedans that will surely be game changers.

My opinions: I'm not quite sure. I love the front, but the back, I'm not really digging it. Discuss!

If they make it, the Panamera will eat it alive. I know that sounds totally fanboyish but c'mon, the Panamera's brilliant. Also, no mention of the Quattroporte in the article?

^ I read an early review of the Panamera Turbo over at Autocar. It basically came down to the fact, that better performance sedans were available in the segment below for much less cash. Namely the XFR and the CTS-V. They did go out and say that they suspect that the sweet spot of the range is probably the standard car, and not the steroidal Turbo.

EDIT: Link to review

EDIT 2: Looks like it's just an M-sport package on the 7.

God, I hope that's all it is. If that's what an M7 would look like, I would be hugely disappointed.

Those pics are BS. Don't waste your time on those.

Here's the real M7 wearing camo http://www.leftlanenews.com/bmw-m7.html ... though to be honeset it might only be the 7 M Sport, I hope they don't make a M7.

After BMW M cancelled the CSL its all gone downhill. Lets hope they wont screw up the next M5, the E60 M5 even though 4-5 years old still holds on the with the competition.

The Panamera, good though it is, is uglier than the Cayenne, so it fails.

All Porsches are brilliant, yet the only one I actually want is the CGT.

I have only read a few things on it, but the general comment seems to be that the car is much better looking in person.

I think it looks nice in photos and I suspect the Panamera will be stunning in person. It certainly isn't conventional, but I'm open-minded.

My bad.

Nobody knows what it will look like, nor what the specs will be, but i'd be willing to bet my car collection the next generation Audi S8 will be better looking and better performing than the M7.

^What he said. The 7 series as a whole is generally unappealing in every way. Even the BMW leather is (generally) garbage. I mean how do you screw that up.

The same monkeys that told them we want a X5M and an X6M. The same monkeys that should choke.

It's funny because I haven't owned a BMW since my X5, and when I went to the showroom for fun to look at a few new models, I had stumbled into the new 335i just as the salesman approached. He asked me if I liked it, to which I said yes, minus the horrible feeling leather, and would like to sit in a car with the optional Daytona leather. He looked confused and told me that I was in fact sitting in the Daytona leather option.

Needless to say, the leatherette seats felt more inviting than the $2000 rip-off option.

Lexus rear-lights aside, I actually really like the new 7.

I've felt that way about BMWs since at least the E36s.
