WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE? is that.. NASCAR???

duality
er so. it might be shitty, but still constitutes as racing.
moe
Does this mean I can take a NASCAR around the Nurburgring?
eraser_rx
will they stop adding content into the game and launch it already.....c'mon!
b0mb3r
they still won't have damage model...
moe
Well hasn't it been confirmed that GT5 will have damage and variable weather and time of day?

Watch the video again. Saw a Subaru rally car with a damaged front.

Looks like it's gonna be fucking awesome!!!!!

EDIT: Found it's ONLY gonna be for the PS3. Aw what the hell, I may get PS3 just for GT5 biggrin.gif:D
tune
I want this game, but I can't be assed to buy a PS3 just for it. At least I won't have to compete in a load of shitty Nascar races to complete the game 100%
Razor
Forza 3 is going to KILL this.
OHirtenfelder
Holy shit man, those Le Mans racers made me wet the insideof my pants a little. It looks awesome!
PhotoDYL
seriously cannot wait for this.. the only reason i bought the ps3 was because of gt5 but they only gave the prologue version... T_T

i much as i hate nascar i think itll be a nice addition to the series; as it is still considered as racing. plus if you could take the nascar around the nurburg that would be pretty interesting. DS_Naughty2.gif

i saw the forza 3 advertisement as well and i thought it was too animated.. but im sure the game will add up in the end. me personally would choose gran turismo over forza.
infinity
The NASCAR part of GT5 will probably be better than any other NASCAR game out there.

That said, it is kind of bizarre that they would add NASCAR to the game...I don't see many NASCAR fans being huge into the GT games, or many NASCAR fans buying this game just for the NASCAR part.

Other than that - the game looks stunning.

I wish I could justify buying a PS3 for this, but I just can't.

I did exactly that, bought a PS3...a year ago in fact. Despite the fact that I much prefer the Xbox...

Shouldn't that be in italics?

laziness is a bitch.

but the comparison between forza 3 and gran turismo 5 is staggering. they are 2 different games that shouldn't even be categorized together, forza is and always has been more arcade than simulation and gran turismo has always been more simulation than arcade (well from 3-5, classifying the PS1 titles as simulation is a little far off). i like both games and will play both games, but gran turismo has always been more true to life.
but i have to say, they both look sexy.

Me too – and I built a cockpit to be ready for it

Still loving GT5P in the meantime, but the full GT5 looks like it will be fantastic!!!

Clearly they DO have damage – in some parts at least – or they certainly wouldn't show it that trailer.

I just hope that they stock it with some of the no longer current european cars from GT4 – would be nice to drive a virtual Speedster on the PS3. It was fun on GT4.

Another wish of mine is that they allow a choice of lhd or rhd cockpits*. In GT5P the British and Japanese cars are all rhd (see my cockpit) pic above. Would require minimal extra data to permit this choice...

*GT5 programmers, are you listening out there?! biggrin.gif
Altostratus
dont give em more ideas, they will just delay it another year.
Halflifehavock13
Polyphony probably added nascar to appeal to people in north america (if they really wanted to, they should send programmers here and put in some more cars). And even though Kazunori originally didnt want damage because he thought it would take away from the natural beauty of cars, with the addition of nascar, I guess he changed his mind. tongue_orig.gif

All that's left is a fucking DATE. Although now that damage is included, I'm inclined to wait longer. And with forza 3 coming out this fall, waiting another year or so (if necessary) wont be a big deal. I just hope that they release the 'ring to GT5P to tie everyone over.
Altostratus
Polyphony has asked interviewers of Kaz not to mention ANYTHING about GT5. hes pulling a John Travolta
Frederf
I find the Gran Turismo and Forza lines of games to be utter shit racing games. They are pretty good car collecting or driving game however.

Street racing is the best form of racing game EVER.
clarkma5
This is my main problem with the GT Series I think, they have soooo much content in it...maybe a third of which I'm interested in. Feels like a bit of a rip to pay for it (and the console as well, since I don't own one and it's the only reason I would buy a PS3).
Altostratus
So what to you is a good racing game? if you say rFactor or GTR legends, all of your future statements are null and void.

Huh? I liked NFS V a fair deal but that was years ago. I've always hated the rest of the NFS series. I do agree with 'erf btw, Forza and GT series lack good AI and realistic racing, they're just like track day simulators...with accidents.

I'm sorry. But what are you smoking? I agree GT has been on top of making things look real, but since 3 there has been a huge drop of in real racing simulation. Even the feel is lost, GT5 prolouge feels much more like an acade game at your pizza joint than a sim.

Also tuning. jesus Christ. I'ma tune my GT5 car: +6 traction, +10 downforce, +100hp - thanks.
Forza: Tighten the rear springs, loosen the front up a bit - add some camber and front downforce and favor the AWD power delivery to the back 35/65. That should reduce some turn in understeer. Op, didn't work, try some caster correction, stiffer rear sway bar and let some psi out of the front tires - lock the variable diff sooner in the back. Done.

GT5 prolouge: hit a wall - bounce off like a pinball with no damage

Forza: Downshift too soon into a corner and your engine starts smoking, rpm climb is slowed. Windows can break, mirrors can crack. Hit left side of the car and the suspension will damage in a way to require directional correcting.

Forza: over 300 cars

I'm a hard core GT guy too. I have all the games, been playing since 2 came out. only own Forza 2 and been playing it for a year or so. But i'm not ignorant.
Altostratus
you obviously play with a controller.
and were not talking about prologue were talking about the full game. you cant compare a demo to a full game (gt5p to forza 2)
dukenukem
Can we move this discussion on PC >>>> console direction ?
Altostratus
no, because that's clearly irrelevant as there is no comparable titles for the PC.
dukenukem
Porsche unleashed is still better than either of them.

I've played both with a wheel, but dont own one.

I'm talking about GT4 and GT5 prologue, since you said the GT series. Although the tuning bone i have to pick is with GT5P. But they still need to step up over GT4. If they didn't want GT5 prologue to represent GT5 in the meantime they should not have charged for it.

As of late, I've been playing that in lieu of Forza 2. That game is truly well designed. The chases can go on forever and still be fun because Heat 5 cops are relentless and legitimately hard to escape.

I was flame-baiting tongue_orig.gif But yeah, I agree. I got bored of Forza, hence my not playing it anymore. So, so, so repetitive.
Bjorn
^My only gripe with Forza 2 is that to make it remain interesting you have to choose an uncompetitive car. Tuning the balls off of a car gets dull...and even tuning a car to meet a race restriction leaves you with the most competitive car in the field.

I wish that for races where you're restricted to a class the computer was able to tune cars to be the best of that class possible...cuz as it stands, I usually have to pick the second or third car on the list and leave it bone stock to make a race interesting.

I guess that happens once you get to the point where you're racing in the R classes...
MustangAficionado
I agree. You'll be racing in a race that limits you to 300hp. Okay that's fine. Problem is they are racing with mustang GT's and subaru STi's while you have a fully lightened race suspension + downforce 300hp lotus exige. It's not exactly competitive. Although online racing makes up for this, they should gives the comps cars with aftermarket suspension and tires
Frederf
As much as I enjoyed NFS:V, it too suffered from the problem of the grid being a pre-determined finish order in terms of what car everyone brought. Playing to win, NFS:V was just as bad as Forza / GT and the like apart from the spec races where you couldn't waltz to victory simply by buying a golden chariot.

I think the best acid test for a true "racing simulator" is whether or not getting first is the end-all-be-all of the competition. If getting 2nd is a horrendous defeat in the might-as-well-not-raced category, then odds are it's not a good racing game. I know Forza requires that you get 1st in every race/event to progress which is what sets it up for failure. Could you imagine an F1 driver coming through the last turn in 2nd place with a 3 second gap to the leader, grunting heartily, selecting Pause> Restart Race? Ridiculous.

Other than that, a game trying to cram as big a car parade into it and one trying to simulate racing are going in opposite directions. The GTR/rFactor, etc games stand a much better chance at real racing simply by the fact they are leveraging a very small car set based on real (or very plausibly fictional) races. An obvious solution to a diverse field is called "classes." No one expects the GT3RS to keep up with the LMP90 cars so they have race classes. Why Forza/GT don't have race classes is beyond me.
moe
I think GRID, arcadey as it is, is the most fun racing game I've ever played.
infinity
Cruisin' USA ftw.
Altostratus
grid was meh. rfactor is a steaming pile of shit.
