Realistically they only really passed them 216 times, because as a team once the lead car passes that's 1 then the other does the same and for the team it's still once. But I still find it funny.

I'd rather not, seeing as I'm biased against VAG, and this sounds like the work I do for my Creative Executions class. If I really go into it, I'd probably end up spending a week looking at all the creative factors, writing a copy platform, etc...so I just won't.
Also Mustang, I don't think the creative firm would want to go back and recycle the whole winning at LeMans idea in almost exactly the same way they've used it before.

The next best step for them would be to get the racing side of things involved.

The M6 is overkill, something BMW has been doing for a while (X6, X6M). I'm not saying this because of any conscious/subconscious bias but it really is. Why waste an extra $15,000 when you can get a perfectly capable vehicle in the BMW M5, or an even more sensible choice in the BMW M3 Sedan/Coupe.

^ Right, but technically the M5's competition from Audi is the RS6. Also the Competition Package isn't available on the M5...yet...
dukenukem

The closest real "competition" to the R8 would have been the Z8 if were still being produced and if it were so it would be a big fat failure compared to the R8.
duality
Apr 17 2009, 02:26 PM
NOTHING in BMW's product line comes even close to the brilliance of the R8. The best of Audi > best of BMW. The M6 is a fat load of bollocks.
I am tired of seeing the hoard of beemers here...its a brand that is diluting imo. X5M and X6M...cmon.

^ Have you read DR's shootout between the 911 Turbo, R8, and M6 Competition? It's definitely in the same league as the R8, just a very different approach to the performance car segment. DR pretty much said the M6's undoing isn't the R8, but the M3...the fact that it costs several thousands less, and is absolutely brilliant.
duality
Apr 17 2009, 03:03 PM
I did actually read DR's review, and it isn't enough to change my views on the car. Imo, the M6 looks truly ghastly...in any dream or reality, I'd rather have the M5...more practical and easier to live with.
Although, I do agree that the M3 is a very competent car. I love it. But in comparison between BMW vs Audi, I'd rather drive the R8. Given the money parameters...M3 please.
moe
Apr 17 2009, 03:10 PM
Fair enough, I'd take the R8 too. I'm not being Anti-Vag here, I'm just pointing out that BMW does have sufficient firepower to match the R8 in its arsenal. It just goes about it in a completely different manner.

There wont be a competition pack for the M5. The last thing they did was put the new idrive in it last year and thats the end of the E60 M5 (end the V10

)
It took Audi and Cadillac 4 years to catch to the M5. They've started work on the new one already. Going to knock the competition back to the stone age like the last 30 years, but Cadi, Benz and especially Audi are getting better. Though the RS6 weighs 200kg more than the current M5. Offcourse you can't really beat the laws of physics, they're sedans in end... blablabla
