I'd castrate myself if I were in the market for a small SUV.

I think I would get a Nissan Pathfinder.
PAULIE_D
The XC90 is not a "small" SUV. Neither is the Pathfinder. Also, they are both considerably more expensive than the RAV4. And you can't get a manual in the V6 Escape or Tribute.

Did anyone actually read the article ? The 2004 RAV4 sounds pretty decent to me.

And remember.... I said IF I was in the market ...

The simple fact that you are considering the hypothetical situation disturbs me greatly Paulie tard.gif

I said Pathfinder, because it's the only SUV i'll ever buy... big or small.
PAULIE_D
For intermediate size SUV's, I like the Pathfinder as well but I prefer the rugged Xterra, especially the SC model. Too bad it only gets about 14 mpg.

The 2004 RAV4 gets 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway , has a very responsive motor and a crisp manual transmission with good handling as well .... that's damn impressive.
clarkma5
The Xterra's an awful excuse for a car dry.gif

It's not a CAR.

And I would only buy one if I had to haul and or tow a lot of stuff around on week-ends and live some sort or "extreme" sport lifestyle. (which I don't)

My little 3rd-gen Honda Prelude suits me just fine. It even handles well in the snow with a good set of winter tires installed. 95% of the time I'm alone in the car and I have nothing in the trunk. A medium or full size SUV would be useless to me ..... also the gas would cost me a fortune. I guess that's why the small & efficient RAV4 appeals to me.
clarkma5
Sorry, the Xterra is an awful excuse for a driveable vehicle. Poor build quality, soggy quality, overpriced, and ragged, weak engines pretty much make it one of the worst things you could buy that has 4 wheels.

lol, i knew it was wrong, i tried several and none seemed right and i was too lazy to go look it up so whatevs tongue_orig.gif

Yah but its femine appeal will get you all the ladies while driving it.
Also if I were in the market I'd get a Pathfinder/Infiniti QX4. I fell in love with those after riding in them all the time with my ~Cough~ ex. Was in a car accident with the Pathfinder and then got the QX4 and it was damn nice.

But in all honesty, I'd said "Fuck it" and go all out and get a Cayenne. At least the Rav4 isnt a pussy SUV that's FWD (Mazda Tribute, Honda CR-V, etc) and it weights under 3000lbs! Most small cars weight more than that now

XC90, even in T6 form, is unacceptably slow. This is coming from personal experience. Unacceptably slow.

rumor is the 2005 or 2006 XC90 will be available with a 4.4L V8 with 315 horsepower. Wonder who makes that?
clarkma5
What I've heard from the rumor mill is that the Xc90 will get a version of the V8 available in the Explorer.
clarkma5
well, Explorer V8 is what C&D said...both seem pretty likely, actually.
Mr b00st
lets' hope it has more power than the explorer V8

i think perhaps that would not suit the character of the XC90 even if it would improve it...
