Here's a snippit...

But enough about paint schemes; the ACR is about one thing and one thing only: functionality. More specifically, putting down all that power from the 8.4-liter V10 to the pavement. To do this, the SRT team focused on aerodynamics, the result of which can be seen at both ends of the car. Up front is a carbon fiber splitter and dive planes that have been specially designed to increase downforce and reduce drag. An extension for the front splitter can also be added for increased aerodynamics at the racetrack. At the rear is an adjustable wing also made of carbon fiber that was specially formed using Computational Fluid Dynamics. So just how much downforce does the ACR produce? Try 1,000 pounds at 150 mph. That's ten times what the standard Viper coupe produces.

I really couldn't give two shits about the Viper. I've always thought the pre-redesign was pretty ugly and the whole massive displacement with low figures was a bit laughable. Still, the 2003+ models are tolerable and do look a helluva lot better but this particular ACR... just sounds incredible. I have fondness for stripped out hardcore versions of cars. This is no exception.

Wow autoblog's way behind the times on this one. Edmunds compared it to the Z06 in October of 2007 and had their first drive in January.

Anyway, my thoughts on vipers is this:

The newer they are, the better they are. I like each successive generation more than the last.

The more hardcore they are, the better they are. Coupes are better than roadsters, and special edition performance coupes are better than either.

Therefore, the 1992 Roadster is the most weaksauce (don't care for them much at all) and the ACR is the best of the fucking bunch and I love it to pieces.

I'm still undecided on this (and the base viper), the sidepipes are winning me over though.

I don't think autoblog's reviews are limited to new cars the instant they're available for testing. Shit, they just did an "in the autoblog garage" of the Aprilia RSV Mille, and I think that debuted back when the Ming Dynasty was ruling China.

I don't read Autoblog.
