Aston Martin has released the first image of its newest flagship – the limited edition One-77. Details are scarce, but the One-77 will be powered by a hand-built 7.0-liter V12 nestled inside an aluminum and carbon fiber chassis. 0-60 times are estimated at 3.5-seconds, with a top speed cresting 200 mph.

77 examples of the £1 million coupe will be produced and customers will be able to customize the bespoke supercar to meet their individual tastes. The One-77 will be revealed later this year (Paris?) and will go on sale shortly afterwards.

This will be the first all-new vehicle from Aston Martin produced after the brand was sold by Ford to a group of investors spearheaded by Prodrive's David Richards. We're also curious to know if the One-77 will play a part in Project Alligator, the rumored collaboration between Aston and Mercedes-Benz. All details will be revealed in due time.

I'll reserve my final judgment for when I see the real thing. The car looks gorgeous with one huge exception...those door vents...I think they're a bit over the top.

EDIT: They're starting to grow on me. The giant vents seem to be a new take on Aston's classic side vents, and I like them.
duality
it looks like the dbs on steroids.

Looks okay, I'll reserve judgement until it's released officially. In other news there are rumours flying around that Prodrive could be entering into a partnership with Jaguar on a LMP1 project, with Charouz still running their LMP1 effort with the Aston V12. Good times.

^ There's also the "Alligator" project. A collaboration between Mercedes and Aston on possibly everything from engines to platforms.
dukenukem
Its just a DB7.

Geeze those giant vents make me think Corvette. What's with this stupid marketing? The One-77 with 77 examples for 1 million pounds. Ooo, that makes me excited.
moethepaki
^ It's an internal codename, the final product will have a different name.
clarkma5
1 million pounds? Fuck that. That's more than a Veyron and, I'm sorry, it won't be worth it. Period.
Bjorn
Wasn't the Reventon (SP) priced the same? This strikes me as a response to that. Although, a completely insane Lambo makes more sense than an insane Aston.

The Reventon was $1 million, not 1 million pounds. This means this Aston will cost almost twice as much as the Reventon supposing Aston actually release this at a million pounds. And I thought the Reventon was already stupidly overpriced for what amounted to little more than a reskinned LP640.

Looks like Aston Martin has already taken those side vents from the SLR.

Well it is completely tailor built. According to Ulrich Bez, if you say you want a convertible, then it'll be a convertible sir. If you want a 2+2, then that's the way it'll be. If you'd like to participate in the development process (say ride and handling), then feel free. Steve Cropley (a pretty well known UK journalist) has said that this a giant marketing exercise that'll either make or break Bez. If it works, it'll escalate him to genius status...if it doesn't...well it doesn't. His blog entry is here.
Phix
Really? I wasn't aware of that. So, they just ripped off Ferrari's FXX program?
johnny.msyl.25
Apart from the enormous side vents, I quite like it. But 1 million pounds is a lot.

Hmmmm..... The buyer would have to be a little more creative than asking for a 2+2 or a 'vert if this was to be worth the 1 million.
moethepaki
^ I was dishing out examples. And honestly, it'll probably be gorgeous, why would I fuck with that. I'll leave that to the royal families of the ME.

To go along with your analogy...maybe not the same hot blonde chick every day but a hot blonde chick is a hot blonde chick is a hot blonde chick. Nothing wrong with hot blonde chicks...
clarkma5
I do mean in it a bad way, but not entirely so. I acknowledge that Aston Martins are pretty cars. They are, however, far from daring stylistically (I call them "textbook pretty") and lose much of their impact as individual cars due to the extremely similar nature of all of the cars across the model range.
DB9
If you've already got a car many would call drop dead sexy, why change the formula? It sure is working for them, wouldn't you say?

Working...yes and no. I think all their cars are pretty. I think each and every one of them would be much, much more special on their own if every other Aston Martin built in the last 15 years didn't look near-identical.
infinity935
...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. No?

...that's exactly what DB9 said. My argument is that the repetition of their one design over and over again is boring.
Phix

...and that just leads to stagnation and while everyone else is constantly making small steps forward they can afford from time to time the small steps backwards as well. When someone sticks to one design for so long they tend to make one large leap forward from time to time but with a lot more risk. What if that leap fails? Then you end up as a has-been.

I'm not going to tell Adriana Lima to get plastic surgery. Same way, I'm not complaining about a company that's given us some of the most beautiful cars ever made, in the past, and now. It's been a pretty steady evolution, and none the worse for it.

Running with clarkma's thought. If every hot woman looked like Adriana Lima, that look would get old wouldn't it. Wouldn't be quite as hot. Or maybe, yes hot, but boring hot.
moethepaki
^ No not really. Also think of Aston as the Lima family, there's Adriana, and all her hot sisters. If you want some variety try the Porsche family, or the Lambos...but don't go to Ferrari, they picked up an ugly gene somewhere.

Everyone is different.

If every girl looks like Adriana Lima then I'd be going around trying to find one that doesn't... because I'd be completely bored with her looks. If that really doesn't bother you then I kind of feel sorry for you because I rate the whole 'sticking to one look/design' philosophy as someone who lacks imagination and lacks the ability to look up the next few flight of stairs unable to shift his gaze from the one step in front of him or in this case the step he's standing on.

Adriana Lima's pretty hot until you realize that she has no butt whatsoever.

You guys missed my point. Astons are like a family, of course they're going to look a bunch like each other, and I honestly believe that there's enough differentiation between their cars. Also, with each generation of car, there's a steady evolution. Just look at the difference between the DB7 and DB9...

Don't care.
clarkma5
I don't believe there's enough differentiation between their cars. I honestly have trouble telling them apart sometimes.
moethepaki
I see the Vantage as tauter, more athletic (ultimately sexier too IMO) and the DB9 as longer, and more elegant. The DBS is really just a hopped-up DB9, so I won't bother with that.

I think the difference in style contributes a lot to the difference in character between the Vantage and the DB9.
duality
vanquish: big and butch
v8: small and cute
db9: long, sleek and sexy
dbs: uber, db9 on steroids with lots of body kit

seriously, how can you not tell AM apart...they are all distintive, yet with the same ethos. i think thats what all companies should strive for...follow one 'family' look, yet make them different. i dont think they lack imagination, kind of the opposite realy. its like porsche imo...one look to some extent, yet each one is fresh (996 vs 997: not much exterior difference, but its there)...you know its a porsche.

i dont know what it will look like, but it'll clearly be power beauty and soul. i wuv AM.

edit: i didnt copy moe's post...he wrote it while i was typing.

There is a modern Aston in the city here I see all the time...gotta be about five times now, and I still can't tell if it's a DB9 or a Vantage. I always see it going the opposite way...so never get a chance to see the badge.
Mitlov
I like it when a car company's cars all have a similar design aesthetic. I don't like it when they take one look and stretch it over various size and shape frames to make the company's entire line-up. Modern Acuras are ugly, but they share a design aesthetic without all looking the same (an RDX doesn't look like a 75%-sized MDX, and you'd never mistake a TSX for a TL because you didn't have a reference for size). BMW also succeeds at having a common design aesthetic without having all their cars look the same. In my opinion, both Audi and Aston Martin have a really good-looking design, but fall into the trap of just stretching that one really nice design over various shapes.

On the other hand, I don't like it when cars from a company have no common design aesthetic at all. An Accord and a Civic don't have ANYTHING in common aesthetically, as far as I can tell.
moethepaki
Just in case you wanted one...you're too late. There are 77 being built, and Aston has 100 orders.
