So does anyone here have any experiences with the 912 (not 912E)? Looking to get the car for weekends and a local once a year vintage race. There are a couple for sale relatively close to me. I'll discuss more extensively if anyone is interested/knowledgeable.

I had been considering looking for one, but they are starting to get close to 911 money...so I decided to concentrate on finding a nice but still inexpensive 914 instead.

Many enthusiasts said that they are better balanced than a 911, which was emphasized by an article I just read which compared the contemporary 911s weight distribution of 41/59 to the 912s 44/56.

According to the article, the European car had a 1600cc flat four engine which made 90bhp at 5800rpm and 90lb ft of torque at 3500. But many road testers felt that the power deficit compared to the 911 was mitigated by the 90kgs less weight the 912 had to carry around, and that the improved ride quality of the 912 could even make it a better car than the 911 to some people.

will be very very jealous if you manage to find one for a great price.

I'm not sure how similar the two cars are mechanically, but my uncle used to have a 914 that ended up giving him headache after headache and major dents in his wallet. That being said, he may have purchased one that was just in less than good shape to begin with (it was before I was born, so I don't know). Just make sure you have the resources to maintain it.
