I was driving down a familiar road this evening when my drivers side mirror literally explodes and my face gets covered in what I'm hoping was water. I shouted "What the fuck" and quickly realized that the van which had just passed me going in the opposite direction had hurled what must have been a water balloon at me.
I quickly debate the pluses and minuses of going after them, and eventually decide that it is in the best interest of my insurance and my wallet to give chase. I know the area fairly well since I used to be a pizza driver, and figure out a route which will have me catch up with them, assuming they continue along the road I last saw them on. Taking a gamble I elect to use this route instead of speeding down the road after them.
The gamble pays off, and at the four way stop at the end of my route I see the van from which the balloon was tossed go by. I put in my bluetooth ear piece and call the non-emergency police number as I pull away from the stop sign and position myself behind the van.
I follow them for a few blocks, describing the van, and where it is at to the woman on the other end of the line. After a few minutes the van must have realized who I was and takes off. By this time the police have all the information on the van, and I decide that I've done all I can do.
Now I'm left with a destroyed driver's side mirror, a lot of anger, and a hope that the police will find this important enough to pursue.
I figure the car which threw the balloon was traveling at about 70km/h, I was traveling at 50km/h (the posted limit)...if my high school physics teacher was right, that means the balloon was traveling at about 120km/h when it hit my car, not accounting for the velocity of the throw. What do you think that would have done to me had it come through the window and hit me? The water that did hit me stung like a mother fucker as it was...
I really hope the police treat this seriously...

When I'm driving through rain at higher speeds I usually wear a full face helmet because the Caterham doesn't have a windscreen. However I had a few opportunities when I left the helmet at home and drove wearing aviator goggles only. At 100 km/h that stung like needles. I don't want to think about being hit with a water filled balloon at that speed.

I would have maintained pursuit under 100km/h until a police cruiser took over.

A similar thing happened to me once with eggs. It was dark out so I didn't get a good look at the vehicle. Once I got turned around, I made the wrong choice at a fork in the road and they were gone.

It's idiots like that, that deserve to crash their f*cking car. Really. How can one be such a dumb f*ck and throw a water ballon at someone else's car while driving. I sincerely hope, for those idiots' sake, that the police find them, starting chasing them, they try outrun the police, and crash their van, hurting themselves. That would be great, 'cause then they'll know what they could have possibly done to you. Idiots.
Hope you get everything sorted out!!

There is an update, the police weren't able to do much considering I didn't see the face of the guy who threw the balloon, but Manitoba Public Insurance is holding the owner of the van responsible for the damages to my car...which means I don't have to pay my $200 deductible...
Apparently the owner of the van is a 60 something person who lent it to their kid or grand kid...and hopefully they nail the kids ass to the wall for this kinda stupidity.

That's a good win. The bad apple usually doesn't fall far from the tree.

Retard 1: "Dude gramps gave me the keys to his van!"
Retard 2: "Oh sweet, what should we do?"
Retard 1: "Well it would probably be cool if we made some water balloons..."
Retard 2: "..Yeah then we could throw them at other cars!"
Retard 1: "Yeah it'll be so cool!"

Back in college, a guy rear-ended my car at a stoplight. He then took off and I followed him. I called the police after a few blocks of him not stopping. When the police showed-up, I backed-off. It turned out that he was drunk.

A Similar thing happend to a girl at my school. One Day i was walking home behind her and a white van slowed down next to her then the window went down and a the guy driveing the van threw a water ballon at her head and it burst all over her.
At First i thought it was rather funny ( i was only 12 then) but after i began to realise what had acctually happend and what dammage the big water ballon might have done to the poor girl..
all her bags and books were soaked and her mobile and i pod and her clothes withch she had to walk all the way home in.
how can people be so stupid and un considerate? IT MAKES ME SO ANGRY!
