Mostly because of Euro 2008 I almost forgot Le Mans! Luckily I saw last Thursday that it was this weekend, so I was in front of the telly at 15:00 CET. It promises to be an exiting race this year with Peugeot really challenging Audi's domination of the past years. They were much quicker in qualifying, beating the lap record and the 'magical' 3m20s barrier. But speed ain't everything at Le Mans. Audi proved last year that reliability is king in this race.

I'm rooting for the #34 team van Merksteijn Porsche RS Spider. It's the pole car in the LMP2 class, and it's all Dutch dance.gif The proved that they can win in the LM series this year, so hopefully they can keep the car in one piece and take the victory!

LMGT1 is always exciting with the never ending fight between the Astons and Corvettes and sometimes the occasional Lambo of Ferrari spicing it up.

LMGT2 will most likely be won by a 911, as every year...

For constant ranking check the official chronos.

16 hours in and... the best GT2 Porsche is in 6th in class, 33rd in total...maybe Porsche wont even be on the podium, forget winning.

Fuck, a Le Mans with out a Porsche winning its class, engineers will be busy in Stuttgart on Monday if the 997 GT3 RSR doesn't even finish on the podium.

Just as a point of interest, does anyone think a Cayman RSR would stand more of a chance against the F430s...

EDIT, the RS spyders are currently leading their class, and are running a respectable 8th overall. Maybe this will be the direction Porsche will go if its GT2 cars cant compete with the F430s.

Wow. Audi once again!

^Peugeot made too many pit stops, just goes to show, that in Le Mans you can be the fastest but economy and reliability are just as, if not more important.

Speaking of reliability though, all the Audis and all of the Peugeots finished, which is a massive accomplishment IMO.

Im also chuffed about a Porsche 1-2 in LMP2.

Peugeot's pit stops due to a fucked up tire late in the race when Gene was driving and then when all 3 cars were put in the garage because the engines were overheating fucked them over.

Oh, and the cars wet weather ability isn't on par with the R10's so yeah

Came home from Le Mans 5 hours ago and WOW it was great!
Danes on the podium in all 4 classes and Tom Kristensen beating the record by winning Le Mans 8 times biggrin.gif
I guess that's what you can call a success even though the ESSEX team was so close to win the LMP2 class only spoiled by the engine problems.

I had a great time again this year - went Wednesday to Monday. I thought Audi would still manage to win the race, even after the Pugs were 1,2,3 on the grid. Well pleased for the Aston boys getting to the finish and 10th overall in their P1 effort - my friend was in their pit garage on Electrics, so I had extra reason to support them and Aston winning GT1 again was great.
The RS Spyders showed their reliability being 1,2, which puts rest most doubts about the factory team being able to withstand 24 hours.
Btw Davidsen Kristensen already had the record he just beat himself.

I was following the Flying Lizard team in GT2 and was happy they made it to the finish after their problems and I was really surprised that the Ferrari's managed to finish 1,2,3. Although they outweighed the Porsche's 7-3.

I sort of wanted someone else to win, but the French were getting annoying, especially after qualy, so I wasn't to bothered.

Pictures up soon.

Le Mans is on my list of things to do before I die. I am truly jealous.

You mean to attend as a spectator or to compete in it?

If anyone goes in the future - an absolute must is Arnage at night. Usually better on qualifying nights, as A) it's not as busy as race night and cool.gif you'll probably see more cars. It's one of the best places for close up action, without being too loud either.

Sorry the pics are in a bit of a muddled order.
