Doesn't Canada make buying a new car from the US a total pain in the ass? Also, you get to convert MPH to KMPH for the rest of the time you own your car (or stare at the smaller KMPH reading on the inside of the speedometer, or get one of those cars that converts between the two).

I thought manufacturers didn't honor warranties when Canadians bought cars in the US, to discourage the importation. I could be wrong though.

The speedometer thing could actually be very useful. "I'm sorry, Mr. Mounty, but it said that I was going 100 on the highway, and I just assumed it was kph!"

^since the whole "dollar being on par" thing happened, lots of independent companies have started providing warranties for US cars. I have seen several examples where people still saved thousands of dollars even after buying their own warranty, setting up the MPH->km/h and DRLs thing. Obviously the savings are larger in proportion to the sale price of the vehicle, and are typically greater on imports than domestics.

That being said, many US Car dealers won't sell new cars to Canadians...although they will sell used ones (RX-8 here I come).

Actually some manufacturers fully honor US warranties in Canada.

Audi and Jaguar offer full coverage of US warranties in Canada.
BMW covers warranty work as well, but scheduled maintenance is not covered.
Lexus & Toyota cover warranty on new cars but not used vehicles.
Mercedes will cover warranty except corrosion.
Nissan, Kia & Saturn as well.
Subaru covers warranty, but all 2008 models require you to pay upfront and send bill work to Subaru of America for refund.

After reading the whole thread, am I still the only one who's more interested what UserDrew said in the opening post than all this GM bullshit?

What do you need or want to know? It's been sitting in my grandparents garage since 1982. Good old grandpa bought with cash straight from the manufacturer. He picked it up in Germany when he was serving in the military and brought it back to the states with him after he retired and was passed on to me in 2007. All I have for the car is ambition wink.gif

Aircooled
Let's try get this straight.

Aircooled VWs are solid.
New GM vehicles are solid.
Drew's car may not be SS or modded out but it still a good car.

That should just about do it.
