The race is only 30 minutes old and the leading cars are already in problems. The Manthey Porsche, big favourite, lost a cooling supply hose and is now 1.5 laps behind. The Land Porsche had a tire defect and now the Zakspeed Dodge Viper has pulled in probably with an engine problem.

7 hours to the end of the race.

The Manthey Porsche, winner of the last two 24h races is leading the race, after the other main contenders are out of the race. The Zakspeed Viper had a heavy crash during the night as well as the Schuberth BMW Z4 with Stian Sorlie, Richard Göransson etc. The BMW slipped on an oil spill in Hatzenbach, overturned and was left on the roof. The Land Porsche had a crash this morning but I don't know how heavy and if the car can be repaired.

On the second place is a Porsche with Armin Hahne, third place is the Porsche with Sabine (her car is recognizable by the burger picture on the door and the number 121).

The Gumpert Apollo of Frentzen had two gearbox defects, one at the beginning of the race, the second during the night and is currently not driving.
Uwe
BTW, the Manthey Porsche is the yellow Porsche with the green hood, yellow headlights and number 1. Easily identifiable on the live stream images.

Sabine was interviewed a few minutes ago. Her Porsche is running okay so far. The fifth gear is missing but she said this is not a big problem as they shift directly from 4th to 6th. There will be a driver change in 4 laps and she will retake the wheel.

Update with the BMW Z4: It wasn't an oil spill. Stian Sorlie came onto a damp part of tarmac, lost the car and overturned. He had a medical check but is ok.

4 hours to the end.

P1, P2 and P3 seem fixed so far, given no car will have a technical defect. The next three positions are in a tight fight, consisting of following cars:

BMW Z4 M, number 64 in P4:

Porsche GT 3 Cup, number 26 in P5:

BMW M3, the so-called Eifel-Blitz, number 10 in P6. He is probably the fastest of the three but has 3 minutes to make up on the next position:

Wow, Manthey won again...good for him. Although if I'm not mistaken the 'ring is his personal test track...more or less.

Also good job VW Sicrocco coming in 11th.

I'm surprised the LF-A did so poorly...looks like they has some mechanical problems...3 of which kept them out of contention for over an hour, and their fastest lap was almost 40 seconds slower than the Manthey GT3, which won.

Cool, the RS Spyder factory drivers won in a GT3 RSR. Way to go Porsche.

The Scirocco's really impressive too. 11th and 15th in a little FWD one-off. Well done VW.
