There's a whole lot more greenhouse than on the 350Z, or that's how it looks to me. Is there any chance that this is a 2+2 (a la 911 and GT-R), or is this definitely going to be a two-seater?

definitely a 2-seater. They've chopped about 4 inches from the wheelbase and about 8 inches from the overall length. it is now cayman-sized.

Gotcha. It's not that there's more greenhouse; it's that there's less everything else. I like that smile.gif

Oh, sweet! I didn't know that. It looks like power will be up, weight will be down, and width will be increased. Plus, it's turning out to be a looker. This sounds great! Now...how much is it going to cost?

This is one of the reasons my next car cannot be a 350z.
moethepaki
^ Why not? I'm shopping around for a used 350 right now. Still as gorgeous as it was at it's debut, and still a great driver's car. Plus, the introduction of the 370 will surely drive down 350 prices. If my budget didn't extend to a new 370, I wouldn't complain about buying a 350 at all.

not a huge fan of the new headlight and taillights. between 350z-370z and g35-g37, the g37 is the better upgrade.
BlackJack
Ehh the front could grow on me, but the back is a nono

Yep.

Oh heh didn't notice that.

Here it is, folks, and it's gorgeous:

Overall evolutionary but far less clunky than the last model.

It is definitely evolutionary. But it's one of those awesome moments in evolution, like when regal horned lizards learned to spray blood out of their eyes.

I don't know about gorgeous...it's pretty weird looking in some areas. I really really like the interior though.
Bjorn
Rear 3/4s beautiful...8/10.

Front 3/4s kinda awkward...5/10.

Interior...3/10...could do better.
Dr. Strangelove
Mitlov... awesome post, man. I award you 10 points.

Haha I agree. I just watched that video and it was very enjoyable.
Ozi
Yea.. thanks for the link. Awkward loonking interior and rear thumbs_down.gif
maxima302
I haven't seen the car in person yet, but it looks OK from the images. A bit frumpy here and there. The interior is really great looking, but I don't get why the center stack is so upright?! That "trip computer" or whatever it is in the left-most gauge pod is going to really date the car 20 years from now, and that suede/alcantara will never hold up on the door panels.
moethepaki
I hadn't looked at the interior until now. It looks like it came from an SUV.
911xx
Do lizards really fucking spit blood out of their eyes???!! tongue_crossed-eyes.gif

And as for the Z, I'm unsure if I like it or not, I'll have to see it in person before judging, but I see somekind of sportier Altima Coupe. The interior looks awesome though.

Regal horned lizards really do.

Nismo 370z

If this is coming to the states by April '09, it might be my next car. Wow, the Nismo tuned version is amazing.
caster
370z in the flesh!

Razor
I want to see an exact side profile to make sure, but it looks a lot like some of the older Datsun Z's.
caster
I'm on the fence about it now, I really don't know, I think i have to see it in person to really get a good idea and form an opinion as far as looks go.
Bjorn
Either these shots are not complementary, or the thing is not as pretty as I thought.
moethepaki
If anything, these shots make me like it even more.
350Z
Those pictures make it look alot smaller than the old 350.
moethepaki
^ Because it is.
350Z
I realise it is about 20cm shorter than the old car, what I mean is the other pictures didn't really give the impression like these.
clarkma5
I dislike those wheels...they're too spindly for such a chunky looking car. Also wish the flat areas around the wheel gap wasn't so big. The tailights and headlights are more distracting than the first photos suggested.
Bjorn
Some new images from Autoblog.

I'm not liking the spoiler, it looks like a cheap part from e-bay, the front bumper is fiddly, the rear is a sea of plastic and paint, which could be vastly improved by some flat black paint around the exhaust tips. I like the side profile, but that is it. I'm afraid I have to call this re-design a failure in my book. Maybe it's performance will make up for the looks...

Also, if that is the base model's center console, in a day and age where an economy car has an interesting and clever dash, Nissan should have stepped up it's game for a $50,000 (in Canada) sport coupe.

And finally, the rear 3/4s visibility looks like it will be Lamborghini bad.
fiber optic
It looks better in red but the front and rear bumpers aren't salvageable.
Razor
Reminds me of the 240. I love it.
Synesthesia
I've decided that I hate the lights. And the catfish mouth. But I really like the back end...really really wide, the taillights look good from that angle too. Overall, not in love with it at all.
Diesel
I like it more then the 350Z. It looks leaner and meaner and has that throwback to the original Z. The tail lights i can live with. I love the side profile and i love the rear. The only thing i don't like are the fangs on the front, but i'm sure the aftermarket will fix that.

My chop.
clarkma5
I like the side profile a lot, and I even like the catfish mouth. The taililghts and headlights are too fussy, and the back's fat (always has been though). Going with a flat black plastic section on the bottom around the car would reduce its visual height substantially.

Generally though it's just a bulky car visually, like its predecessor. That's true regardless of its decreased size. Overall I think it's an improvement over the old car, but honestly I never thought the 350Z was a particularly pretty car, just a good performance value.
Bjorn
Does anyone know...was the spoiler part of the original design, or was it a TT-esque addition?

It looks like an accessory spoiler or perhaps something that comes on the higher trim levels to me.
Bjorn
^I would think that too...only it's pretty ubiquitous in all the spy photographs and official photos (although companies do like to feature the high end models in all their advertising).

I would be interested in seeing a car without the spoiler, I can't decide on whether it would make the back even more of a shapeless lump, or if it would make it seem more cohesive and smaller.
clarkma5
The preproduction, lightly camo'd gray car that got featured on Edmunds and many other places had more basic 18" wheels and no spoiler. I assume that is representative of the lower trim level.
Bjorn
Ah, I was going by the plethora of images posted here.

Would you mind posting some of the Edmunds images? I wouldn't mind seeing the 18s in addition to the cleaner rump...The wheels on the car I posted are hideous.
Bjorn
Looks to me like the spoiler is still there, just covered up....but I could be wrong.

Wheels are much much better than the silly 19s.

clarkma5
Yeah I realized the spoiler might be there still too...it's hard to tell.
Diesel
spoiler definitely not there in this pic.

another shot.
