Porsche has been saying that they didn't want anything to do with F1 for a while now. I think they are just saying that to get Mosley to step down. But I don't see how he could hold on to his seat after this. That is a DIRECT effect of his personal life on the sport and he needs to go.

that's a pretty dumb reason to give up on f1 or whatever. it would be cool for another well-funded team to be in the running but there's no guarantee that porsche would do well
Uwe
Porsche has loads of money but they are investing it by buying Veedub. I don't see them in F1 for the next years. And neither another car maker from the VW chaebol.
Bjorn
I would much rather see a P1 effort.

Porsche does have a history of limited success in F1...but it has a history of absolute awesomeness in endurance racing.

I honestly think an Porsche F1 team would be awesome :fanboi:

Uh, the scandal never really put Porsche away. Porsche mainly just reiterated that the scandal is just hurting F1 from drawing anymore manufacturers to it.

The main reason Porsche doesn't want to get involved in F1 at the moment is the huge cost involved. About 300mil a year to run a front running team.

I don't think he'll survive the Vote of Confidence anyway. So we'll soon be saying bye bye to Mosley. Porsche F1 might be cool, but it wouldn't seem right if they were lagging around the back of the grid, it'd need to be a full on front runner.

Does anyone know how much it costs to be an engine supplier? Porsche has done this in the past with success (TAG McLaren team I believe), and have some experience running a modern V8 racing engine (Porsche RS Spyder). (yes...I know that Porsche reentering F1 is a pipe dream...but one can fantasize...no?)

But that brings up an interesting point...considering there is a moratorium on engine development (I think) how would a new comer enter F1. If they were allowed to bring in a new engine which they developed after the moratorium was in place, that would be skirting the rules in a way, wouldn't it?

Good point, presumeably any new teams would have to use an engine already used in F1?

Phix I got you first time around, I was just saying they should be at the front if they did enter.

Williams payed something between 10 and 15 million USD for their engine package from Cosworth for 2006, IIRC.
