Discussion thread for the upcoming 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Definitely going to be a Massa victory here. He's always been good at this track and he topped the times in the Practice session.

Yep, he seems very committed here.

I'll agree to that. He's my favorite for the championship too, so after not finishing the last couple times I'm hoping for big things here.

I don't know. Massa's been quick in both the Australian and Malaysian practises...I think more of his lack of performance comes from his apparent inability to drive intelligently without TC under a stressful race situation. I don't have high hopes for him.
Phix
Robert Kubica on pole. A pole on pole. LOLOLOLOLOL

Anyway, I don't think he can make that into a race win. He only beat Massa's time by 0.027 seconds and the general consensus is that he was on a lighter fuel load than the Brazilian. Poor Heidfeld down in sixth place. sad.gif

Well, that turned out to be a procession. :/

I disagree, especially in the opening laps of the race. A lot of good battles there. The end got boring, but what a race at the start!

Its really starting to look like Hamilton can't really drive well if the weekend isn't going entirely his way. I never really liked the guy, always felt that he was a brat. I expect to see him self destruct even more in the coming races, especially if Ferrari and BMW keep coming strong. McLaren lost its momentum, I am looking forward to seeing if they can make it back.

I love to watch Massa. He is a person who drives with his heart rather than his head. That makes him less consistent of course, but a lot of fun to watch. If he doesn't make a MASSIVE comeback in the next two or three races, and actually make a pretty big swing at the championship, than I think his contract at Ferrari will be up for grabs.

People are looking at Alonso to fill that spot, but there are a few problems with that. Kimi v Alonso. The question will be: Can Alonso deal with another fast driver in his team? I get the feeling that it would actually be a good pairing, Alonso's biggest problem with Hamilton was that the guy didn't earn the stature he got at that team, Hamilton never earned Alonso's respect. Whereas Alonso would go into the deal with Ferrari expecting to have a rival in the same car. Not to mention that I really don't feel like Raikkonen has really stepped up to be the #1 at Ferrari by earning their admiration, and devotion. He's too cold and I think that has really been reflected in the work of the team. I think Alonso could bring that passion back.

So uh Massa won Bjorn.

...while starting on the dirty side of the track, Bjorn. Without traction control.

^Ya...I missed that one completely. I still stand by my opinion that Massa is likely to fold under pressure without TC to save him. What I saw this race was Massa making a great start, getting around a slow Kubica...after which Massa pretty much had a clear track ahead of him for the rest of the race. I really believe things could have gone much worse for Massa if Kubica had held onto the lead throughout the first lap.

But this is all just speculation, and I'm often wrong...so please take this opinion with a grain of salt.

I have felt this way about Hamilton since he started to loose it last season. Although I disagree with you about his personality. I think he is one of the most likable guys on the grid. One thing I don't like is how ITV worship the ground he walks on. I don't know which coverage you guys watched, but ITV would not stop blaming Alonso completely for Hamilton running into the back of him.

While I don't like Alonso at all, it did seem odd that Hamilton was that much faster than him at that point. But apparently Renault released the telemetry of that incident which shows he didn't lift or brake.
Bjorn
^If I'm not mistaken, McLaren released a statement to the effect that part of Hamilton's front wing broke prior to running into the back of Alonso, which dramatically reduced his down-force, and drag, which was responsible for the burst of speed.

I like ITVs coverage, but their Hamilton loving is getting old.
