An old friend called me up today, he's moving an offered me his 2.2L Porsche Flat 6 engine for cheap.
The catch? the engine was underwater for a short period of time in 1997 when Manitoba had a massive flood (you might recall reading about Grand Forks being on fire and flooded in 2007). Although it was never run after that.
I would love to re-build a 911 engine as a side project this summer. Do you think the engine has any chance of being able to run again, considering I'm planning a complete tear-down?

Even if it wouldn't run by the end, OMFG what a nice coffee table it would make
I'm no mechanic so don't know much about flooding...

as long as it wasnt ran, the only thing to deal with is rust.

Yeah but couldn't there be rust pretty much anywhere? How can you look at an engine that went through a flood and tell from the outside whether or not it's worth it?

I'm thinkin that even if it's a total loss, it could be educational.

How much is cheap?
Cheap is a couple of hundred dollars.
I have been looking at getting a project engine lately, and the quotes I have been given by people such as Pelican Parts range from $2000 to more than $5000 depending on what you want and the condition of the engine.
