2008 F1 Season - DS Member Competition

We're just a week away from the beginning of what I hope to be another good season of racing. Last year was the closest it's been for a while and we can only hope it's the same if not closer this year. I shall endeavour to keep up to date with the scores - however I usually forget to do my own prediction.

I've revised the rules this year to predict the Top 8, as opposed to 5, as points are scored like this in the actual race - should make for more points all round. If any of the regulars have any problems with this let me know. I am also in another F1 competition which has some pretty cool rules, but to keep things simple, we'll leave it at that.

Most people who played this last year have since left (for what it seems, no good reason). Any newcomers who don't understand please feel free to PM me and also check out the 2007 Season thread, pinned in this Motorsport forum to see what people were doing.

THE RULES:

1. Entries must be posted before the start of the race. No exceptions.
2. 3 points will be awarded for guessing the correct outright winner
3. 1 point will be awarded for guessing the correct driver for positions 2nd through 8th *New for 2008*.

Will a mod please pin this thread and delete the 2006 season thread?
skr
Don't mean to be anal, but you forgot to count 18. I was wondering why there were 23 drivers.
tune
I've edited it now, but what I actually did is #20 twice! The reason there's 23 drivers (well 22) is that there is no #13.
skr
Why is there no #13? Superstitions in racing too? Was there never a #13?
Clockwork
Like Mitch Hedberg would say "Come on Sebastien you know what car you are in"
tune
Yeah it's superstition referenced to bad luck.

I promise I will stick with this one biggrin.gif

I am here and it has been a long off season. Oh man, F1! No TC is going to rock! C'mon first rain race!
Marien
I'm still around, but most of the time to busy to post, or even read the forums. I am however looking forward to the new season, and I'm going to try to beat Dr. Strangelove this time!
Marien
Oh, and about the missing #13. There are lots of instances that there's no #13. Like no 13th floor in hotels or 13th row in an airplane etc. I don't mind the number 13, but enough people do apparently...
bobo27
woot, just a few days and F1 starts!!!
Bjorn
I'll probably forget on saturday, so here goes my shot in the dark.

1)raikkonen
2)hamilton
3)massa
4)heidfeld
5)heikki
6)alonso
7)kubica
8)rosberg

I'm going to try and keep a spreadsheet all season to keep it more under control.

Bjorn, first one to dip your toes in the water - looks a pretty good prediction, all those drivers have been up there in free practice.

My tip for the weekend - Mark Webber in the top 5 (well depending on how qualy goes).
Bjorn
^I based my predictions mainly on last year and what I have heard about this Ferrari Chassis which is apparently light-years ahead.

If I was thinking more with my head rather than my heart I would switch Hamilton and Massa around...but I don't think I could stomach the re-emergence of Total Ferrari domination...I desperately want this season to be as good as last years.

As for Webber, he has been off of my radar since he drove for Jaguar. I know he is capable of great things, but I just haven't seen the constancy from him which would cause me to bet on him doing well. That being said, based on their performance last year, I think Red Bull is poised to join Williams and BMW in the fight for "best of the rest" this year.
Ferm
Yup, I'm still here. Although I won't compete this year.
Uwe
My prediction for Melbourne:

1) Hamilton
2) Kovalainen
3) Massa
4) Heidfeld
5) Kubica
6) Rosberg
7) Raikkönen
8) Trulli

Bjorn
wow, this morning really threw a monkey wrench in my choices. I'm gonna stick by them however, as I think Kimi has a Schumacher-esque drive in him.
Dr. Strangelove
Wow, this is going to be a hard season to call. I think the biggest thing were going to see with the loss of traction control is the degradation of the consistency and predictability of the races. It will be a lot of fun to watch.

Kubica
Hamilton
Massa
Kovalinen
Raikkonen
Heidfeld
Vettel
Rosberg

Great job from BMW, Ferrari might be in a little trouble now but I think they will be back to dominant form later on in the season.
Davidsen
I'm still here but mostly because of this competition.

GP of Melbourne:
1) Hamilton
2) Kubica
3) Räikkönen
4) Massa
5) Heidfeld

I really just threw those names out, I have no idea hahaha.
Dr. Strangelove
What a train wreck! Great drive from Hamilton, I think one of his best to date. I still think he is a douche though. Almost all of my favorite drivers were out, and Ferrari has their work cut out for them.

And now so do I.
tune
An entertaining race! The traction control issue seems to throw up some incidents and was great to see that it greatly improved the chances of overtaking! Ferrari seemed to be fast as hell, but all over the place.

Partly unlucky, but partly poor strategy from Honda again with Barichello getting Dq'ed - next race Brawn will be at the forefront making sure that doesn't happen hopefully, or at least telling Rubens to watch out for the red light at the end of the pit lane!!!

Scores will come tomorrow. I have the spreadsheet at work, it'd be easy enough to do it now, but will be easier to do it all from the sheet at work later in the season.
bobo27
Yea good race indeed, there was a lot happening, Ferrari didn't have their best outing, and Hamilton seem like he is on a mission to destroy everything in his path. Alonso is a has been.
Dr. Strangelove
Alonso isn't a has been. He doesn't have a fast car. I thought he did very well with what he had. He had one of the better drives of the day.

I know, he did have one of the better drives, but I hate his guts, so I am talking trash about him.

I'm kicking myself I forgot the season opener, but I don't think I would've ended up with many points anyways.

I would like to participate this year (hopefully I'll keep it up, I forgot about most of them at the end of last season).

I don't think anything can be predicted by that cluster-fuck.

Hopefully it will be an exciting race again, like last week. It sure has the ingredients: possibility for rain and the McLarens 5 places back. Trulli was quick!

4 Trulli
5 Kovalainen
6 Heidfeld

Fuck...I'm so confused, there are no obvious trends, aside from BMW being very quick...and Toyota making massive improvements.

If we could move the discussion for the Malaysian Grand Prix to this thread: http://forums.dieselstation.com/index.php?showtopic=24037

...and leave this thread purely for picks on the competition then that would be great and keep this thread nice and tidy.

Thanks.
