Not much on details right now but the important news is that
ESPN is reporting that the IRL & Champ Car have finally decided to merge. There wasn't much choice for Champ Car in the matter since it probably didn't have enough capital to run the whole series this year...this could make for a more exciting Indy 500 but I think that the idiots on both sides have made too many mistakes in the last decades to ever get back to wear open-wheel racing's popularity was in the 70's & 80's. Even A.J. Foyt last week was talking about stubbornly giving up on IRL if they merged...idiot.

F1 is the only open-wheel racing worth watching...even at the obscene hours

^I would watch another open wheel series in addition to F1 if it had the same quality of racing and coverage.
One thing I like about F1 which couldn't stand in another race is that although the drivers and cars are plastered in adverts, there is virtually no mention of them in the broadcast. The first time I heard a Champ/IRL driver claim that Pepsi and Reece helped them win a race I would be gone forever.

F1 has just become the biggest and most technologically advanced (probably) open wheel racing series, but A1 GP and GP2 are two examples of open wheel series' that are much more fun to watch. If you can find a download or a station in the US that airs it, get and watch it you won't be disappointed.
I used to like watching Champ Car on Sunday nights (UK) a good end to the weekend before school the next day - back when Montoya was team mates with Jimmy Vasser in the Ganassi team.
Not a fan of oval racing though, just the circuits.
