So what really is going on here? It looks like a snake eating a person. I just never looked at it clos..ely.

It is sticking out its tongue St George's Flag. Just Italy's way of making fun of the English.

That snake must be related to the Saab...thingy. For the record, what is the Saab thingy supposed to be? A fire-breathing griffon?

The Saab logo is just a griffin with its tongue sticking out. It happened after Saab became Saab Scania.
I'm pretty sure the AF is just a combination of Italian coat of arms?
Edit: After some quick research. The Alfa dragon thing, is actually a child devouring serpent. It now gets my vote for best logo ever.

okay i wasn't gonna say anything but seriously onikozah... a griffin is such a well known mythological creature...
it originated in ancient Greece and is used in cathedrals and mythology throughout history. it's half eagle/hawk and half lion.
it's a fairly well known creature.

I've heard of the name, never knew what exactly it was. Knew it was Greek too. I've overheard some kids before talking about World of Warcraft, and saying they "rode a Griffin."

Man, no matter how much you hate Harry Potter movies or books, you still have to read the book or see one of the movies.
Just so you can see what it's all about.

With Harry Potter, you gotta read the books. The movies are dumb, and are a pale shadow of the books. At best.
The LOTR movies are good, but only if you've read the book.
In general: when a story is first a book, then a movie, read the book. Or at least don't judge the book's quality by the movie.

Well just the other day a couple of my friends made everyone watch all the Harry Potter movies up to number 4. I fell asleep during the first one, left halfway through the second one, couldn't watch all of the third one, but I watched the entire fourth movie and I actually really liked that one.
So, uhh, in my opinion, the fourth movie is good, don't really know about the rest.

The book is always better becuase there is more detail in it and it is left to people's own imagination. The assumption come is based off your statement becuase most people who get pleasure out of reading understand that. It is exactly what Mitlov said, movies are just a pale shadow of the books.
I have discovered that knowing harry potter is a good ice breaker. I think J.K. Rowling is a horrible writer who basis her writing solely off a single formula repeated several times.

My beef was not with people who like movies. Film is an amazing art form. My beef is, when there's a famous series of books, which has a spin-off series of movies, I hate it when people talk about it like only the movies exist. As in:
QUOTE
"If you haven't heard of Harry Potter, you've been deprived."
"I have never seen a single harry pooper movie."
" 'Here we just sell small rectangular objects. They're called books. They require a little effort on your part, and make no bee-bee-bee-bee-beeps. On your way please.' " (Quote from the Neverending Story; a bookstore owner lamenting that kids don't read anymore).
"Actually .. the entire cast could have died of plague in the first 5 min of the first movie for i care."
In short, I hate it when a movie is made out of a book, and the book subsequently ceases to exist in popular culture, for all intents and purposes.

Not just that it becomes less popular. It's that people don't even associate the story, the concept, and the characters with the book anymore. I don't like how a derivative movie completely eclipses the original book in the minds of many. I hate that when you mention "Harry Potter," people assume that you're talking about the movies as opposed to the book. It'd be like if you mentioned the New Testament and someone assumed you were talking about some Charlton Heston movie.

Well I was interested in LOTR when I watched the first movie, so I continued on watching the next two movies of the trilogy. I loved the story, so I bought the 3 books with the prologue The Hobbit. It's story is far more interesting in the books because the movie left out some parts which is quite interesting. So books win, LOTR too.

Eragon was also a book first, just for the record, released in 2003. I don't know if it was any good, but we sold plenty when I worked at Barnes & Noble. In short, Eragon is a book first and a movie second, just like LOTR and Harry Potter.
