Gerald Weigart is back, and has announced today the introduction of the 2008 Vector Avtech WX8, which will be shown at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show. There are no official images yet, but these artist renders hint at what it might looks like. The important stuff however, are that it will be a 7.0L V8 producing 750hp through supercharging (or 600hp naturally), 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, and an estimated 11.3 quarter mile time @ 138mph. Top speed should be around 260-270 mph. Those are some BOLD claims indeed. Read on for the official press release and more unofficial renderings..

Anyone know what the original Vectors were like to drive?
nismo
Hopefully it will have a better interior. hah

Have any vectors even made it past the concept stage?
Asher
That sounds like fun, but that top speed will never happen.
ExoticTuner
This would be uber awesome if it made it into production. The return of the jet fighter for the road!
Synesthesia
Looks pretty nasty, worse than the old ones. I am hugely skeptical of that top speed figure.

here's some more on it. who knew people would be interested in a mid-engined f-body camaro

also, whatsup with this speed-driven page diesel? it looks exactly like dieselstation. i must be out of the loop

It uses Joomla!, the same thing that DS does. Plus it's owned by Diesel. That helps too. tongue_orig.gif

Are we moving there from here or something?

It takes 1000 hp to get a Veyron to 252mph, I find myself doubting this car's ability to do the same unless they have some really really good engineers working on it.

the most important thing about vectors is the interior. this one better have a badass one like the old one with the screen and billions of buttons and shit
Synesthesia
I don't get it Diesel. I thought you didn't like dealing with the news here. Now you're starting a new news site?
Diesel
i didn't like dealing with finding wallpapers, downloading them, resizing up, sorting, and uploading, and all that stuff.. news i can deal with.
Synesthesia
Understandable. I like the site (the way the picture browsing works is sweet), dig the color scheme too. I would say the "Welcome" and "Latest News" sections get lost with the add though.

I think it looks alright, but I mostly like because it reminds me of Gran Turismo 2. But 260+ from 750hp? I don't know about that.

Well, I think it could be enough power if it has the proper gearing, the car is made of proper materials and has the prober areodynamics. But I, like most others here doubt it can do it.
LeviM
I guess we will have to wait and see. smile.gif I was really excited when I read this thread, because a while back I had heard that Vector was going to make a come-back; at the time I thought it was just a rumor.
moe
Anyone seen the real thing? It's pretty bad. Looks like a Supra front-end grafted on to a stretched, mid-engine, late-model F-body.

Just found this bit from their press release. I lol'd so hard. Guess they're going for upwards of 2000hp+ now

The new Vector Avtech WX-8 is intended to raise this bar so high that other companies will be hard pressed to reach or even approach the apex of performance achievable by the ultimate high-end 300 mph capable model...
The basis for the new Vector WX-8's extreme performance is the dual supercharged/or turbocharged custom manufactured high output cylinder-block and heads recently created by classified & confidential suppliers.

ahhhhh optimism
Diesel
well.. autoblog states they're reaching for 1850hp on a twin supercharged marine mill. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/14/la-2007...ut-theres-hope/

I'm so sick of supercars. The world doesn't need anymore, really. There's more supercars on the market right now than there are family sedans.

NOT HAPPENING.
LeviM
It's all a conspiracy to get other supercar manufacturers to work harder. But I have to agree, the headlights are definitely Supra.
ExoticTuner
That is freakin ugly. Also, how will they get 1850hp down?

Remember the new Vector we told you about yesterday, the one we likened to a previous gen Camaro? Believe it or not, the Vector Avtech WX-8 looks way worse in person. But don't let that turn you off. This is clearly just a prototype and although the overall shape may stay the same, there are a lot of tasty nuggets we learned about the car from stopping at its booth here in LA. First of all, the engine will be longitudinally mounted, not transverse. Secondly, besides that 7.0L V8 with its twin-turbo setup, there will also be an optional upgrade to a single whippled marine mill that should pump out somewhere north of 750 HP. If that seems too tame, you can opt for a twin-supercharged version that promises a whopping 1850 HP (!). The performance stats for that one are listed as 0-60 in 2.5, the quarter in a superbike-like 10.0, and a top speed of 275 MPH+. Well, that plus sign after the 275 can make it 300 MPH with Bonneville gearing, according to Vector. By the time this thing reaches production, we wouldn't doubt claims of 3,000 HP and 400 MPH knowing Vector. And as a slightly veiled slap at a certain super-Lambo displayed just on the other side of the wall, there is a huge photo of an F-22 Raptor behind the Vector to remind us of the inspiration and aeromotive engineering behind it. No pricing or production dates were announced though, so stay tuned.

Why the hell is autoblog informing us the engine will be longitudinal? Isn't that blatantly obvious.

600HP...no, 750HP...no, 1850HP...no, 3000HP!!!

What a whole bunch of ugly bullshit. "knowing Vector"? Knowing Vector, it won't happen, and whatever does happen will be shitty and will either blow up or crash.
