Spies have captured the first photos of a production Jaguar XF in full showroom trim. The car is partially covered by a large cloth, but many details of the car's exterior are visible for the first time ever.

Elements of the C-XF concept are clearly in play on XF but the aggression level seems to have been toned down on the production model in some instances.

The production XF's fender vent is much more consistent with Jaguar's current line-up. The vent revealed on this prototype looks like it was taken directly from the current XK.

How closely the XF mimics the concept's front design will make or break the XF. Previous shots show the "blades" that bisect the concept's outer air-intakes are more uniform on the XF, with a less pronounced flare as they wrap toward the front fenders. The lower central air-intake also mimics the concept, but the look isn't quite as cohesive on the production XF.

Official photos will be released in the coming weeks, and more revealing spy shots are likely to arrive before that time. The XF will go on sale later this year in some markets, and early next year in others. It will be offered with a V8, supercharged V8, and "R" supercharged V8, according to various sources. Speculative horsepower ratings are 300, 420, and 500, respectively.

Rear lights look like they have been lifted directly off an Aston Martin DB9.

That isn't really a bad thing IMO, but what worries me is the interior shot. While the basic design is still of the CX-F's interior, it's been toned down so much that now it just looks bland.
Easton
Wow, what a scoop!
NorthPoint
I would agree about the interior, truly cheap and horrible. Too bad since the exterior looks to be pretty good.

Wow, a little too strong on the interior criticism...it is a bit bland but I say that judgement should be held until the materials & dash textures are seen up close.
Mitlov
I like the interior. Simple, classy, and timeless, and without the kind of blobby, excessively-rounded, 1990's look of many modern Jaguar interiors. The real test, though, will be the quality of the materials.
UserDrew
The dude in the car has some funky looking hands.

Oh no, Start/Stop button X.gif

I can't call the interior terrible, but it is very very conservative. And Jag needs a design language that's more unique and less Aston, but it is still a reasonably attractive car. Personally, I thought the old S-Type was really attractive, especially when it had been nipped and tucked into the latest R version, and that it really had a definitive Jag look to it, but oh well...

"Best and Worst of the Parts Bin Grab" thread comes to mind. Otherwise, looks good, and IMO the interior does look a little basic.
Synesthesia
Looks pretty good. This seems like we'll have two pretty fine Jags in a row.

Anyone noticed the how transmission is a button on the center console...just like the concept.

A single image has surfaced online showing what is purportedly the 2008 Jaguar XF's headlight. The image was apparently captured from a dealer brochure using a camera phone.

We cannot confirm the authenticity of the image, but it appears very similar to the headlight shown in an official Jaguar teaser. See comparison below:

if that is the actual headlight it looks hideous compared to the ones on the concept

No joke. That looks like a headlight for a compact economy car.

For comparison:

I think it looks great, but they fucked up on the headlights big time...should've just left them alone.

It's one big leap forward from the S-Type styling-wise, but not the two leaps forward that the C-XF was. I'm ambivalent until I see more.
aenox
the headlights look a little better from that view, not as bad as i thought

Damn it...you beat me to it.

Apart from the headlights, I think it looks stunning.

I think it's biggest problem is that there's no distinctive brand look to it. You can tell a Saab from 100 yards. Same with a Bimmer or an Audi. This design easily could have come out of the Infiniti design shop, or Lexus, or other brands. The C-XF was distinctive, even though it wasn't Jaguar's old look. This just blends in too much.

Oh god this pic is just begging for a 'What the fuck is this shit?' caption.

EDIT: The very first one with the guy, of course.

The XF concept was gorgeous, but a Jaguar-owning friend of mine (who also happens to be a Visual Communications student) pointed out pretty much exactly what Mitlov just said. It might as well be a Lexus (though I disagree with the Infiniti comment, I believe has a very strong brand look). What Jaguar really should've done is a production version inspired by either the R coupe or the RD6 concepts. Those managed to be distinctly Jaguar while being unmistakably modern at the same time.

The grille is probably the ugliest i've seen on any car in a long time.

Well, that is your opinion but I would call that over the top after seeing stuff like the Pontiac Aztec driving around or even the outgoing S-Type. I know that people are up in arms about the headlight changes but I don't think that a minute change like that turns the car from "gorgeous" to "horrendous"...I agree with people though that this looks a little innocous for it to be the 'great step forward' that Jaguar needs. Still, it is a good step forward for Jaguar and now I am interested in how it will drive & feel inside...those areas are much more important if Jaguar is to once again be a major player in the luxury market.
dukenukem
Well, let me put it this way .. the grille would have been a much better match for a different car .. overall i think it looks pretty good (thats right i praised a british car), except for that stupid pig faced grill. Will it save Jaguar from doom ... probably not.
Mitlov
It's not so bad looking in this photo:

And there's a lot of photos here:

I don't think it's great, but I think I was overly harsh on it before.
Synesthesia
Oooh...that front end is in every way ugly/generic. The grille is the same shape as the 300's, the lights are ugly, the hood has too many weird bumps/lines, and the lower lip/bumper doesn't really go with anything. Other than that, I don't think it's bad, though a bit uninteresting, but I think it looks fantastic from the rear and side/rear. I like the wheels too.

They've managed to iron out the back, which I didn't like before, but they've creased the front. The original headlights would have made this car so much better.

Agreed. On a different note, it's growing on me. It really is a modern Jaguar.

EDIT: I take it all back...I love the XF. Watch the video on the start up of the car...it's awesome.

You're right, the car looks really good in motion. I just doesn't work well in still photos. There are other cars like that, in my opinion--the new XK springs to mind first and foremost.

The gadgets on the inside (the pop-up shifter and the roll-down vents) may have some gizmo-fanboy appeal, but if I was in a British car, I'd want fewer electronics, not more. Particularly if the electronics don't add any utility whatsoever, but seriously hinder the car's functionality (or downright prevent it from moving, in the case of the shifter) if they fail. I feel the exact same way about the move away from traditional metal-blade-type keys, but that's for another thread.

That won't matter much as the shifter in our S-type is already completely locked in park as long as the engine is switched off. Similarly it won't let you take it out of park unless the brake pedal is de-pressed, and it won't let you put it into park unless it's standing stationary.

I think the XF looks good, my only gripe is the fender vents wich might look like an after thought and headlights, which I think should have been carried over untouched from the concept. Other than that I think they have been every bit as true to the C-XF concept car as Ford was to the Iosis concept car when they finalised the new Mondeo. The interior is also now completely free of Ford parts bin swiches and has a lot less plastic surfaces. I think it looks simple and classy, and it does that without being overly buttonized like a Mercedes, and also it does without a fiddely I-drive system.

I will however reserve my final judgement untill I see the car in real life in annother colour than boring silver. CAR magazine has a launch video, can be seen here

I think the styling's grown on me a lot. I thought it looked like an asian knock-off at first, but now I do think it looks awesome for a four door saloon. I'd have one of these over a 5-series I reckon.

Anyway, when's the R version coming?
Easton
It's attractive but they fucked it up by showing a much better looking concept before this, which makes the production version look pale in comparison.

I've just been reading about it in Top Gear and the pictures in there don't actually seem that bad. It will always have "RR Stormer Syndrome" to my mind now, but it's still quite nice.
