I'm researching Bluecasting because my company is wanting to offer that to one of our clients as one of our services. There are companies out there that specialize in bluecasting however they're very secret about their hardware and software. Naturally renting equipment from them and then making our clients pay more isn't something that we want to do.
Everything i read is like "It's as simple as a small server with a bluetooth antenna" but doesn't say much more than that.
I have contacted a few companies but haven't gotten much of a lead.

Your client wants to spam people's cell phones with advertisements as they walk by? Dude, your client is sleazy. And this is coming from a lawyer.

Agreed. If an advertising board or something sent something to my phone while I walked by, I would do one of the following:
A. Graffiti that shit up with a good old cock'n'balls.
B. Kick it in. Hopefully destroy that bluetooth thing in the process.
C. Fantasize doing A or B and really not do anything but stop whatever was being sent to my phone and block Bluetooth access from whatever device sent it.

Or 4 ... use your cellphone's bluetooth to connect to the server and access application without incurring web usage charges ... but who am i to say.

Nobody's forcing you to keep your Bluetooth on 24/7. I turn on mine only when I need it.

I actually only use WiFi anyway. I'm almost 100% of the time in locales with wireless nextworks, so I only use Pay-per-KB whenever I REALLY need it. Plus, coded into there is probably something to stop smart folks from doing that.

Come to think of it, same here. Only wastes battery keeping it on.

That's like defending someone who wants to put advertisements above your toilet by saying: "Jeeze, nobody's FORCING you to have your eyes open!"
"If you didn't want telemarketers calling you at 3am, why'd you have a phone?"
Flawed argument FTL.

And it has been made perfectly clear that this system is only intended for spamming.

I'm not defending these fucks , I'm just saying that they are here to stay and that you can take some precautions against them.

That's not a fair argument at all. Bluetooth can be turned off without any impairing your phone in the slightest. If you turn off your phone, you'd miss calls even from people you want to receive calls from, if you close your eyes you can't see, if you turn off your bluetooth....ohh nothing happens.

Um... wrong. You turn off bluetooth. And bluetooth is off. You realize that bluetooth being on is required for several common cell phone features right? Many hands free ear-mounted headsets for example, but there are many more examples.

Turn off device discovery.
Cyclone

Well for one, this is already extremely popular in this place called "Europe". It's totally legal since users have to opt in. There will be signs advertising the service and people who have bluetooth discovery on (which most phones wont let you keep on permantely) will be asked if they would like to recieve a file.
I found everything I needed. Thanks for the (complete lack of) help.

Stop being a douchebag and put your phone up to your ear like the rest of us.

Apparently the idea of arguing a point strictly on concept is foreign to you. While I do not use such a device myself, I do comprehend the painfully obvious ethical breech when a perfectly legitimate consumer device feature is used against the same in the name of profiteering. I too have a position on teen pregnancy despite not being a 16 year old with a lumpy tummy or middle eastern politics despite not having one sand dollar to my name.
But I must take this time out to thank you for arguing with me. I absolutely get off on logical debate and this session has been simply orgasmic.

For being Clarkma's brother, you really do suck as a member.
I have no interest in continuing this argument simply because you can't remove your head from your ass and see that your argument is flawed. You lose no functionality, you lose a peripheral device's functionality.

Its loss that's so trivial it barely affects anyones' anything. In keeping with your eyes argument, it barely even ranks as you taking your sunglasses off to not see the advertisements.
