We just snagged these KGP spy shots and it looks like there's even less camouflage on the Porsche Panamera than the last batch we saw. Those wily Porsche engineers who aren't so good at camoflauging their test vehicles, ditched the large plastic "cage" obscuring the Panamera's rear spoiler ever since its first appearance on the test circuit. We can now clearly see the smooth integration of the rear wing into the Panamera's sloping rear hatch and the spoiler that lifts and extends outward from the base of the backlight glass. How very Mercedes SLR of you, Porsche. Still looks like it was hit with the elongated ugly stick.

Doesn't look bad, I'm sure it'll look pretty good once all the crap is off. It won't be anywhere near as pretty as its competitors though (CLS, Quattroporte, Rapide).
Pinecone
l actually like it. The side profile gives it a nice sporty, yet luxury taste.
bing5500
Wow...you guys are serious? That thing is horrendous...the overhang on the front is huge but the rear looks more like a mutant hatchback then something resembling a 911. In all, this looks like a butchered Lexus GS...
Dr. Strangelove
I dont like it.
clarkma5
There's still plenty more camo to come off the thing...I suspect many of us will change our tune when it's actually released.
dukenukem
Atleast its not TVR ugly X.gif
arnge
isn't it supposed to be called the panamera ?

i saw it in a lot of mags. but i never thought they were really gonna make it.
clarkma5
Yeah, it is called the Panamera.

Porsche has used this kind of rear wing since the 964 Carrera 4 was introduced in 1989... Anyway it's amazing how every time some manufactuer makes a new car, (or just a redesign of an older one) the first objective for all kinds of bloggers is to make comments like "Looks like a copy of x, y or Z..."
WardLarson
panamera, panorama.

tomato, tamato

Am I the only person who likes how this car looks?

choke me with a four door porsche

If it weren't for the Cayenne and Panamera, Porsche wouldn't have had the funds to build the GT3 and GT2. Just for the record.
WardLarson
i think the car is gross looking. it's just a low, stretched out looking cayenne with a spoiler on the back. it's not what i like to see from porsche.
Razor
Front is OK, IMO. The rear made me throw up in my mouth.
TheSupe87
wow, that looks like a mix of a porsche 911 and the back of a Lexus GS - NOT a good mix. 4 door porches shouldnt exist. not even the SUV's
redlinehappiness
I like it. You better take the pic out of your sig.

Not really since panorama actually means something.

As for the porsche the rear is rather like a 928.

It's one thing for someone who has purchased a 911, Cayman, or Boxster to say this, or for people who suggest a viable alternative source of income for Porsche to say this. The fact remains that sports car sales alone are not enough to keep Porsche economically healthy (that's why they introduced the Cayenne to begin with). Do you have any suggestion about how Porsche should fund 911 R&D, if not through crossovers and sedans? I'm all ears if you do.
WardLarson
I'm not generally against crossovers and SUVs from Porsche. it's just if they're fucking horrendous looking, like [imo] the Panemera is, then I am.

This thing is hardly a crossover though. I mean it's really just a sedan with a hatch. Tell me again why Porsche needs another family car in their lineup?

By "crossover" I was thinking of the Cayenne, not this.

a ) to make money

b ) Some of the older people I know (my dad's friends) owned Porsche's earlier in life, and after they got married and had kids, they had to trade them in for BMW, Merc, or Audi sedans. When they Cayenne was launched they were genuinely interested in the idea of a Porsche that could carry the whole family, but didn't like the idea of it being an SUV...this is Porsches attempt at capturing that market.

If I had to buy a big luxury 4-door sedan for $125-175K, this would be better than what exactly?

I think it's cooler than a 7-Series or A8, not to mention a Lexus LS.
CarDesigner'09
I don't know about you all, but I would've preferred Porsche to stick to the '06 sketches a little better. It's coming out in '09, so they've got a while still to perfect the design. I agree that sports cars can't make all of Porsche's money, so the Cayenne was justified, and so is this. I'm just hoping that they focus less on luxury and place more of an emphasis on sport, if they can do that then there's less of a risk of losing all those die-hard Porsche fanatics.

New pics just posted from Alberta, Canada.

The more pictures that surface of this thing, the less promising it looks. Those lines just don't do it for me, especially the ass. bleh.

Looks good to me. When's the official unveiling?
eraser_rx
it takes a porsche fan to see the beauty in this thing....

i don't like it.....it's simply too long.....the front is too long...the tail is like what clarkson described: "a dog doing its number 2, the kind of arch thing.......hideous!....ewww"

the more i look at it....the more it looks like a 4 door crossfire......

The overall shape looks good, and the details are still heavily disguised. That's what will make or break the car. Also, as the Cayenne has proven, it won't take a Porsche fan to love this car. It'll sell like hotcakes just because of the Porsche name, the fact that the engineering will be absolutely flawless, and it's got four-doors.

exactly.....because of the porsche name.....i know the name and the reputation...but i won't get it (more like, i have no financial ability to get it)....well...i'm a 23 yr old....my taste will probably change when i'll be 40~50 yr old....
911xx
If I look at it as a sedan, it fails, because of the too long hood and the too curvy rear.

But if I try to look at it as a smaller Cayenne, it's good, because of the strong look of the car. But I guess that it's not what Porsche intended to do with it. ohdear.gif
350Z
Nothing wrong with a curvy rear. wink.gif
WardLarson
i still hate it. it just looks so wrong. awkward at least.
redlinehappiness
The renders somebody posted earlier, made me give the car a passing grade, but the pictures Eraser posted make me think of it like a Magnum that someone tried to pass off as a Porsche.

I actually really want to know.
clarkma5
The Panamera shouldn't be that much...it should roughly mirror the Cayenne's prices, maybe a little more, so roughly $60k for the standard 4.8 and $100k for the Turbo, plus options...so call it 75 to 115. Anyway, your other contenders in that price range include the Mercedes big AMG sedans (The E63 and S63), the Audi S8, the BMW M5 and Alpina B7, the Maserati Quattroporte...maybe you can toss the Bentley Continental GT Flying Spur at the top end of that scale. At the lower end of the scale, you could argue it competes against the likes of the 550i, the A6 4.2, the Cadillac STS (V8 or V-series), the Infiniti M45, the new Jaguar XF...

That's a helluva lotta cars that people may buy instead of the Panamera, and I think you can clearly see that, although you may not personally pick any of those over a Porsche, there are plenty of worthy contenders for people's cash.
Frederf
Yeah I'd rather have a Quattroporte I think.

We need to see the final version of this to say, I think. I just saw a Quattroporte in person today...it's really quite underwhelming. Especially from the back...I think it's probably their worst looking car. It's also HUGE.

You lie. It is quite simply one of the most beautiful cars ever to be built.
350Z
Moe is right the Quattroporte is gorgeous.
Frederf
I get the underwhelming from the Quat too. The thing is I'd rather eat 125K than spend it on one of those gucci handbags with wheels honestly.
clarkma5
Nah, the Quattroporte is the best-looking car in the segment, but I have to agree that none of these cars REALLY light my fire.
tune
It turns out the Quattroporte is like Marmite. I think its gorgeous too, although it's one of those cars that shouldn't really be gorgeous given the snout and basic tail lights, but it just is and the hugeness just adds to road presence to me. Looks best in that deep burgundy.

I agree, the shape looks good to me. I am more into the heavier, muscle car look I guess. This reminds me of the charger in a lot of ways. In the video below that RevDB has here , it almost looks like the Veyron from the back. I'm stoked.

Definitely don't see the Veyron, and that video is ancient.
