Heeey, nice Mustang. I actually... really like it. I think it's the red paint.

I heart.gif side exit exhausts.
trail_boss2
I like it the mods are good and the car still looks good too.
GTR
Man one of the nicest Mustangs I've seen in a while..
The Side Exit Exhausts are catching my attention.. you know how much it takes to change it to a side exhaust?

Custom fabricated? I think a few companies offer them pre built.
GTR
well I was planning for a while to fit a pair onto my ride, and I got a budget of about $6500- $7000.
anything in that range? I'm going to see my autobody shop next week anyways, so I'll see what they have
MustangAficionado
Thanks for the warm welcome guys, and sorry about the sig pic - that was a lil ignorant of me.
As for the side pipes- long read:
I ordered the 2.5" pipes to be pre-manderel bent for me in Illinois then shipped to me along w/ a set of Magnaflow dual walled oval tips and some magnapack barrel mufflers. Once i got the parts i welded on some hangers and bolted it up to my X-pipe to fit and FINI. Costed me about $300 total. Pre fabricated designs by such companies as roush/spintech ect cost upwards of $650 but others that are more like $900-1k come with unpainted sideskirts to fit the tips and it looks quite nice. Only problem w/ these is the design they use which is a "snake-back" design entailes connecting the mid-pipe to a large same-side inlet/outlet muffler then snaking back to the front of the car to go out to the side; which results in a small loss in power and horrible sound. Mine simply connects to a short barrel muffler then goes about 100 degree sweeping gradual turn to the side.

Here's an horrible description of my lay-out (ignore the 90 degree label in first old ass pic):

krazykohla
That is one clean cut and beautiful 'stang biggrin.gif

It's in great condition for a '96! (MUCH better paint than my man's '95)
The only downside is that you missed the 5.0 by just one year...

But that thing is damn fast and sounds pretty sexy though. I still love the '06 model look, and yours is one of the nicest that I've seen! I bet the engine runs just as smooth as the car looks. thumbs_up.gif

How many ponies is that thing pushing after all those modifications?
Mazdaspeed

Bee-uu-tee-full! What's the engine like?
GTR
ohh you used MAGNAFLOW
I was thinking along the lines of using Borla, is it gonne be more expensive by any chance if you choose which brand you use
MustangAficionado
I actually prefer the OHC design and direct port injection. It may not have as much low end grunt as a 5.0, but gears easily fix that and having not just a peak power spot but a constant spread across the rpms is a good feeling and it helps when launching. With PI cams (just out of newer mustangs) it hit 245rwhp 287rwtq on a dynojet at an alt. of 24ft. OSL - not too impressive, but with 3.73's and a new Stage II tranny w/ a 3200 stall it really puts it down on the track in a 3087lb. car Raspberry.gif
MustangAficionado
It doesnt make it more expensive "per-say". I used maganflow only due to the fact that their barrel muffler is small and short enough to not have to snake back towards the front of the car, i wish i could have fitted a cambered muffler. If ur putting this on an M3, then im not sure where your mid-pipe ends so this might not be a problem for you. Borla mufflers are a lil more expensive tho.
GTR
Yeah my first choice was Borla... but if they don't have that, I'll go for MAGNAFLOW. I also think I can find where
my midpipe ends pretty easily, plus when you put it that way, I need to talk to my mechanic about this... huh.gif
MustangAficionado
Go on youtube and figure out what combo sounds the best then figure out the dimensions of the muffler and what pipe diameter you want and ask your mechanic to do a moch up of the design to see if it'll work before you buy all the parts. I've seen a side exit M3 at the track b4, it kicked my time's ass thumbs_up.gif

Not my favorite year for that car but it looks nice.

I love the color!

Not a single person said anything about your 4R70W. My truck has the same transmission. Perhaps this place is changing and I need to stick around.

best i've ran is a 13.79 on street tires at regular pressure - but i hardly ever run, mostly watch. Keep in mind this is with NPI heads which really restrict the 96-98 stangs head.gif , most throw out the intake, cams and heads for 99+'s before they do any serious modding.

Here's a few more pics i've taken w/ my new Cannon A640 10.0mp

You know, I fucking hate that body style of Mustangs, but I like yours. You kept it really clean and classy. I love side exit exhuast and Tourque Thrust wheels. And the smoked headlights are a nice touch.

ha thanks guys. I put a lot of love into this lil auto tranny, now that bitch can handle 550+ (not that it needs to). And i'm glad i can liken your preception of stangs tony thumbs_up.gif

i don't understand how those shifters work. saw one on a 70's camaro once... was cool... but don't get it. seems to shift kinda slow though.

the speed at which it shifts is dependant on the amount of gas given and the rpms at the time of desired shift. I gave it about 3/4 throttle and upshifted at about 4800-5000 where as my redline in at 6k. If im any where near 6k and i hit the up shift while in the throttle it'll punch up in a hurry. This mostly pertains to shifting from 2-3 cuz its actually 2-D, 1-2 is usually pretty on demand.

why not a proper manual ?

why not a proper manual ?

I bought the car w/ my own money when i was 15, so when i found a good deal i couldn't complain much about an auto. The reason i didn't change it out to a t-45 or later 5-speed when i needed to rebuild it was because i could rebuild my 4R70W and make it reliable w/ the new tranny cooler + hardened performance parts and high stall converter for about $700 less than a new stock spec 5-speed made by Ford to regular specs. I'd rather have a tight 4 speed that can handle 550rwhp and does .37 second upshifts than a 5-speed. Although my next stang will surely be a manual thumbs_up.gif

Update: Project ready to go in:

cams off of head, parts ready to be hot tanked and put on thumbs_up.gif

VT stage 1 cams in the mail. Micky Thompson ET streets to come.
Hoping for consistent 12.8's and a 12.6 when dialed in after tune. And around 330hp/350tq (crank)

looks awsome man, cant wait for the track vid !

How aggressive are those cams? Will you have the lumpy idle or will it still be relatively smooth? I'm too wimpy/cheap to do any real motor work on my 4.6L.
Razor
You are the definition of someone who correctly does a project car. Bought it yourself when you were younger, fixed things you didn't like about it, kept it clean and good-looking rather than riced it, and now you're doing the engine. Amazing. I can't wait to see the finished product on track.

It will be relatively smooth compared to some out there, but not bad for a modular engine.
Here's a vid of someone w/ the same head/cam/ and intake manifold swap: http://www.csledd.com/vids/VT%20Stage%201%20cams.wmv
If that doesn't work (for some it doesnt play in WMP) here is one w/ the same cams but i'd be running more compression and timing and power (hopefully) http://youtube.com/watch?v=EWcHclsiaX8

Wow, thanks man thumbs_up.gif You described exactly what i love about what i've done to the car, and it's nice to hear approval from fellow enthusiasts about my passion on a budget. Got the PI heads and cams assembled locally from a guy for $100 where usually assembled they are 350-400+ shipping. So i took off the cams and sold them for $95 + shipping Raspberry.gif Got a set of used (solid billet alluminum, they dont wear) VT stage I cams for $265 less than new from a guy i know and a new intake manifold for the swap for $90 shipped. Most expensive part is the SCT X-cal II flasher and custom tune for street/strip and a separate for smogging that ModularPowerHouse outta Georgia (best in country for stangs) is creating per my specs. When all is said and done should be at 10.3:1 compression and 320hp/350tq (crank) then the ol' rustang should be on par w/ a 01' Z06 vette and with slicks on par with a C6 vette (at least in a straight line 1/4 mile laugh.gif )

Nice plan. Wished my car parts came in that cheap sad.gif

Btw .. how much did your car put down stock on the dyno? just wanting to see how much power increase these mods will have..

Stock they were pathetic, the heads/cams/intake man. were sub par to say the least. It's around 195-200 stock to the ground im not sure on torque. I believe the first numbers i got on the dyno were inflated due to the tuner wanting to show gains from the tune, cuz they seem to be high for my mods and it wasn't really a respectable shop. With the mods i'm looking at gaining around 40-48hp and 35-40 tq over the NPI parts, so including drive train losses i actually might be guessing my crank numbers a lil low. But i guess we'll see.

Dont have an ipod, or any mp3 player. Honestly i'm a go>show guy. I didn't even buy that deck, my ex GF did - if that didn't happen i'd still have a cassette player. The only show mod i bought was the wheels which also serve for 285mm worth of traction too tho. The smoked headlight's i needed when my stockers started having water em in after i cracked em while doing engine work. The suspension i bought definitly wasn't for the drop in height, and the shorty antenna, floor mats, chrome door sill, and bumper incerts were all gifts thumbs_up.gif

But im not bashing show mods at all, i think i love my dad's Audi for it.
