not that i'm that much of a hockey fan.. but DUCKS WIN!!! first championship ever!!

It's only a matter of time until NHL hockey becomes the most popular sport in North America.. well, aside from NASCAR anyway.

Shortly after that point, I predict that most Californians wll start to wear plaid flannel clothing and start their day with a double-shot of maple syrup.

Take off, you hosers.

I was going to post this. But then I realized that for some reason everyone in IRC is anti-sports. Those filthy nerds.

Niedermeyer played for my hometown team, the Blazers. Awesome.

Also, that's fucking sweet for Giguere. It was so shitty seeing him lose in Game7 last time.

For the record i'm a huge Ottawa Senators fan, more so than Montreal, I hate Montreal. I'd just like to start things off with a big congrats to your TEAM. Selanne, Rob Niedermayer, and all the great players such as Getzlaf, Perry and Giguere. They alldeserve that Cup because thy played as a team, and understood each other. The chemistry was unbreakable.

That aside, it pisses me off the most that the fans in Ottawa ( I attended the Saturday game at Ottawa) are so extremely emotional and proud of their team. You should have seen what it was like when we won that game. Honking non stop from 11pm-3am with crowds all over downtown, going psychotic. It was just amazing, and you look at Anaheim and see the less than mediocre celebration after thy win the Cup. It was all over CBC and TSN (national broadcasting networks) how mediocre and mild the celebration was in Anaheim, and how it was comparable to a regular season game over in Ottawa. The CBS sports anchors even said last Saturday that they've been to Superbowls and they weren't even half as loud and crazy as the atmosphere in Ottawa. I guess California and the rest of the USA isn't big into hockey, they recieved dismal ratings from both the opening Game 1, and the rest of the games, having as much viewers as a rerun of The West Wing.

I guess i'm just a little frustrated that my team lost the Cup, but it will come in due time. Congrats to your team, and for us it was just a learning experience.

P.S You guys have to remember, Hockey isn't sport; its a religion here in Canada.

Wait, are you serious about the being the most popular sport in America? Hockey sucks, its mostly a high school sport for kids in Minnesota, It used to be a part of the Big 4 in the US (NFL, MLB , NBA , NHL) but popularity just dropped like rock. A 31% decline in ratings, which weren't good in the first place, will guarantee a new expansion franchise to secure a new fanbase. It will most likely be Vegas, since they've been begging for any sports franchse, and the sheer number of people who are there everyday.

You my friend need to watch more hockey. If anything Football and Basketball are terrible. I cannot for the life of me sit and watch a bunch of guys throw balls into a hoop. There's too many points, it makes getting a basket in worth less than getting a goal into a net. Football I just never got into. Never followed it, never will. I could never deal with all these calls, and crap. MLB, do not get me started. Baseball should be a pasttime, not a sport. It blows my mind how excrutiatingly boring baseball is. There's no tesnion and the atmosphere just down right sucks. Besides, the Stanley Cup is the oldest sports trophy, and also the hardest sports trophy to win.

I appreciate the Stanley Cup itself, and I understand that its a popular sport. I'm saying that it won't rise again to become a popular sport in America. I could be wrong, who thought watching cars go in a circle for three hours is entertaining, I still don't. Soccer is my second favorite sport, its too bad we don't have our own league advertised at much, but it's just not gaining popularity, David Beckham is more of a tabloid star, than a professional athlete in the United States, the majority of America cares about his good looks, more than his passion for the game. Its that kind of thing that prevents most sports being appreciated.

And you speak with 100% truth. NHL will never get as populat as College football or College Basketball. Americans just aren't ready to adopt it into a regular game.

How is hockey any different from the rest? It's a bunch of wannabe boxers on skates chasing a black puck around... if I wanted to see exciting ice action I'd watch bobsleighs or a Finnish snowmobile race. If I wanted to see two guys duking it out I'd watch boxing. If I wanted to see a bunch of white guys chase a black object I'll just watch COPS.

I'm glad Anaheim won. Teemu deserved a cup. Also the fact that nearly everyone here in Winnipeg, like years before jump on the canadian team bandwagon for the finals.

Alfredson is a loser, and great representative of Ottawa because of it. There not winning a cup any time soon.

At least Buffalo didn't win. Thats all I really cared about in the end - even though I would have preferred Ottawa to win the cup.

Alfredsson carried Ottawa throughout the whole Stanley Cup Finals, he's also accounted for several big time goals along side the big three (who unfortunately weren't present throughout the las series.

You don't not seem to know much about hockey do you? Chris Pronger is a big time vetern with years and years of experience on his shoulders, Selanne is also a big time veteran who has plenty of previous Stanley Cup finals experience. J.S Giguere has also been a huge contributer from previous seasons. The Niedermayer brothers are also big, with Scott Niedermayer having 3 previous Stanley Cups in his belt, and a James Norris Trophy for Defencemen of the year.

Ottawa is NOT a choker team, they've lived past that hype and have doen us all a huge favour by getting this far. Look at Emery for example. Last season he was dismal in the playoffs, this year he was our saviour, getting us into the the spot where we were. He made some key saves, and just happened to stumbled in the Finals. We as a team have never been there before, Anaheim has. We were unaware of the tension, the expectations and the hype that comes with the Finals. The Ducks were just all out a better team with more experience and big hitters. You saying that lfredsson sucks is just an indication of your lack of knowledge of the NHL and its various teams. Like previously stated, Alfie was our guding light at times, and a motto for the other players as we struggled to get by the Ducks. And by saying Ottawa will not win a Cup anytime soon, you must be mistaken. Look at last year, we were knocked off 2nd round to Buffalo. We learned from our mistkaed and got better. Now look where we got? Things can only improve for us.

Now please, with all due respect, have a little bit of research and knowledge on hand before you bash other teams will you thumbs_up.gif

It's my opinion and I'm sure many would agree. If he was that good, the players around him would have shown up for the finals.

Pronger hasn't meant shit to Anaheim these playoffs, he hasn't been the same since the rules changed.

Aflredson firing the puck at Niedermayer at the period ended? Fuck him, your a fan of that guy? haha. Yea he's good but he ain't a champion.

Emery wouldn't be shit without the defenceman infront of him scrambling to clear huge rebound after rebound he lets go. Ottawa had their chance this year there's nowhere to go but downhill from here on out.

But downhill? Are you serious? Because as far as i'm concerned this was the best season in modern franchise history. If anything, us making it to the SCF only brought our team closer together. It showed our team that we CAN make it there, we AREN'T chokers, and we ARE a good team. We are still a young team and have lots to learn. If you are defending the Ducks, take at look in 2003 when they had the chance but fell to NJ. Would you have said then that they have nowhere to go but downhill? Would you have said they had the chance but failed? I'm willing to bet an arm an a leg you wouldn't.

Again I cannot stress my point enough, Anaheim was and is the BETTER TEAM. We didn't play with character, heart or drive like we did in our previous 3 series'. But the fact that we got there means alot and show that we are very well capable of winning it all. And how do the other players' performance in the finals have anything to do with Alfredsson and how good of a player he is? He showed his heart and his drive. He accounted fo key goals and pushed his effort into the final minutes. Just becaue Heatley and Spezza were no shows has absolutely NOTHING to do with Alfredsson. And as far as Emery and our defencemen go, our defencemen suck, Mezzy needs to go, Redden needs to go. Emery was solid throughout the first 3, but seemed to have been under too much pressure in the finals. Do I need to re point the fact that last year he was crap an this year he pulled us through? I can only imagine next year.

And s far as your fans go, they suck. Anaheim had one of the worst T.V ratings in recent NHL Cup history. It was said that less than 1/8th of the populaton of the city watched it on T.V. Thats pretty pathetic if you ask me. And as far as the Finals, it wasn't even sold out. They had at least a few 100 empty seats, and after thy won the Cup it was a pretty uneventful celebration I must say.

It's strange seeing someone from Montreal referring to Ottawa as "we". Just an observation/something I found interesting.

I'm not defending Anaheim, I like to watch them play..their a damn good team, but agree on the fans part. I guess I could see Ottawa doing better with a big force out back instead of Redden. But I don't see the coaching staff making the right decisions soon enough to ride this wave of success they felt this year, and carry momentum through all of the season coming up.
