So I'm bored and decided this weekend I wanna build a spud launcher. I have a good idea of how I wanna make one using compressed air. Also I have an idea of how to make one using one of those lighters you use for grills and such as the trigger. I'd rather make an air compressed one however because less danger of me blowing my hand off ;D I used to play with these a lot as a kid teehee

Anybody have any good plans on building one that they could list? Google isnt helping too much thumbs_down.gif

you gotta use the lighters with fuel, my friend has one and holy shit that thing LAUNCHES, loud as hell too

we made on over at my mates house, and we loaded an orange into it and he shot it straight up (in the middle of lotsa houses) but it crashed down on top of a chicken shed next door lol. It had the neighbours out quick lol.

My friend made one. If I was talking to, i'd be able to expain exactly what you need. His is 5 feet long, it has a 4 foot long barrel, and he uses a ski pole to push down the whole patatoe all the way down. There is a bigger tube, 1 ft long with a spark plug on it, this part has a unscrewable part and you add in what ever u want. Simple.

i made 2, my second one had a 10ft barrel and 2 4ft combustion chambers, but was not as impressive as my first.

To make a really good gun, the combustion chamber should be 1.5 times larger in volume than the barrel. So do the math and figure it all out, and you will have a much better design than the crappy long barrel with a huge 4" piece on the end.

Make it in a "U" shape like this, so that its not so long and you can easily carry it around:

Also, dont use hairspray or deodorant as fuel, thats retarded, use Carb/Fuel injection cleaner, 2 small .5 second squirts and then shake it up before you shoot and it will go FAR!

Its also fun to fill old socks up with sand and shoot it at your brother. laugh.gif

Okay, basicly, this is the type me and my friend have, it shoots about one or two foot ball fields long, and we once shot it straight up, and it disapeared in the sky and we never seen it land. It is quite long, it is also accurate. When shot, it's very loud. It's got a kick back, and we shot it at a sign and it dented it like no other. That gray stuff between the two peices is duct tape so its definitly sealed. You have to put the patatoe back really far, we used a ski pole. The pipe is made out of PVC water pipes. We used putty and glue too make it so the part where the ignition is definitly sealed. When we shoot it, we use a whole patatoe, and shaved it down if neccisary so it would fit into the tube. The pipe is about about as big as an average patatoe. We used hair spray, it might not be the most effective, but it's the cheapest & cleanest fuel we've used. To fuel it up, you have to put in a patatoe in first, then open the screwable part and spray. Put the cap on fast as possible when you are done fueling it up. It's bang for buck.

Warning: This guy could probably kill a person, never aim it at a house or a person. Do it at a field or something.

I think the measurements are too long, but its something like that.... the one we have goes up to my nipple, and im 6'0. The gun fits in a Jetta's trunk easily. It's at my friends now, I should measure it. You can get all types of adapters so the pipes go together by screwing them on. Quite easy, you just need to do research, and selecting pipes and stuff is hard.

Some friends of mine back home built a gigantic one. I believe the fuel chamber was 4-5 feet long, and the barrel was about 5 feet long.

It sounded like a cannon, got the po-po called on us once.

My friends and I at college built a whole array of launching devices smile.gif We did a few of them indoors even, hehehe.

Things we've used for propulsion: Dry-Gas (works great indoors, no smoke/fumes), dry ice + soda bottles (be _careful_ with this stuff, it's as dangerous as a real explosive, despite how it seems), rubbing alcohol, etc.
