Full Version: Mastretta MXT - 200hp mid-engined car from Mexico?

A sports car designed and made in Mexico? Sure, why not! Set to debut in December at the 2008 International Mexican Auto Show, the Mastretta MTX is designed by Mastretta Design from Mexico City, and might possibly be going on sale in the first quarter of 2008. The car features a mid-engined 2.3L 4 cylinder engine developing 200hp with 0-60 predicted to be in the 6 or 7 second range, and speed topping out at about 143mph. While that doesn't sound very powerful at all, keep in mind that the car only weighs 2,200 pounds. All these numbers are pure speculation however as specs have not been finalized. Here's hoping they at least bump the horsepower up to 260-300 range. But even so, this car still sounds like it would be one fun ride. Keep in mind that the Lotus Elise only comes with a 190hp engine and weighs 2000 lbs. There's also a video available at:

It looks like a mix between a ferrari, Lotus Elise, and a Cadillac (Headlights). I kinda like it though.
moe
I dunno, I guess it looks...well it doesn't look bad, I just don't like it.

I think it looks good and looks like fun. ^And, yeah. It looks one million times better with dual pipes instead of that one, er, asshole.

The back reminds me of the Europa and the Tommy Kaira ZZII

I like it. I think it's a nice, cohesive design, and the ~200 HP mini sports car is a segment that is sadly ignored overall it seems.
Mitlov
It doesn't wow me, but I still like it, and it sounds like a blast to drive.
dukenukem
Powered by refried beans ?
Dr. Strangelove
Cool I wonder what it will sell for. There just arent many (any) cars in the cheap RWD segment.
Mitlov
I just realized that this car would probably be pretty cool in black, either matte or gloss. The orange is probably the worst part of the photos. Photoshop, anyone?
Drewsky
its just strange looking i dont care for it that much. but i agree with Diesel it looks a lot better with duel exhaust

I like that much more.

This looks like a cool little car, what are plans for this? I assume not bring it to the US just like all the other good cars?

I can't imagine that a Mexican manufacturer would not sell in the States, whereas for many small European manufacturers, just selling on that continent may make the most economic sense.

It seems pretty awesome. Anywhere in mid $50k and lower and this car stands a chance here.

Dual exhaust does look miles better...

My vote: thumbs_up.gif

My concern of reliability: dry.gif

I find this kind of cool becuase it is coming from a nation not known for it's automobile industry aside from being a cheap place to have imported cars assembled. For some reason I want it to be a good car. Where are they getting the engine block from? Or any of the parts for that matter.
Phix
Mexican built.

I fear.

Yeeahh...the question of Mexican reliability is a good one. Any ideas which/how many of the parts will be sourced from other companies and where?
moe
I'd like to see the interior. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the stuff came out of the VW parts bin or some other company that assembles cars in Mexico.

The steering wheel is a taco shell and the shifter is a burrito.
