Starting out in the new S80 with standard AWD, positioned between the N/A 3.2 and the 4.4 V8, we can expect this engine to spread throughout other cars in the range that also utilize the 3.2 liter I6 (such as the S60, V70/XC70, XC90, etc.). A higher boost version may well even find its way into an R car. Sounds fun!

I thought they were discontinuing the R line?

I've heard a lot of rumors about a C30R.
Jordan
Yeah. volvo said they wont be putting the R moniker on its cars. but they will continue to make cars of the "R" performance level. Which really isnt saying much.

The C30 is rumored to get a AWD 250hp+ setup. But who knows for real. The latest buzz with Volvo is BMW's interest in buying them.

The new T6 is kind of docile. But it'll be cool when guys in Sweden take it out and plot it in a 240 like the did the old T6 whiteblock.

Hadn't heard that. It's a bit surprising, given that Volvo is one of Ford's most profitable subdivisions, and is now successfully platform-sharing with Ford and Mazda. Got a source for that? I'd be interested in hearing more.

Volvo needs to put a different engine in their S40. They should make a different model with at least 300hp with turbo and AWD. Then we can talk business.

...the T5 is actually a rather good engine though. In fact, it's probably the best part of the car.
Jordan
Its the best part maybe, buuuut thats a really blanketed statment. Not everyone buys cars for performance. Especially a Volvo. The S40 looks good, has decent performance numbers, but its by no means a road rocket. I'd say the best feature is the slightly more hip appearance of a very safe and sophsticated Volvo.

I love the sound of the T5.
