Changing Lanes!
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/...le.do"A massive flaw in a new generation of speed cameras means motorists can avoid fines and points on their licence simply by changing lanes.
The Home Office admitted last night that drivers can avoid being caught the by hi-tech 'SPECS' cameras which calculate a car's average speed over a long distance."

I have seen people switch lanes to avoid the old type of speed cameras.

They've been a lot of speed cameras put up in Qatar lately...I'm not liking this...

I'm so glad they don't have these in the US yet. At least I haven't seen any so far anywhere i've been. Isn't another easy way to avoid being caught by these just to slow down where they are? When i was riding in the car with my uncle in Scotland, he would just slow down when he knew when they were coming up.

Yeah that works until you come to a road you don't know.

Well yeah that would be the obvious problem. I'm sure they're fairly well hidden in a lot of places, but surely in many places they are quite visible before coming up to them as well. I feel like even on a road one is not so familiar with, it would still be fairly easy to keep an eye out for them on the side of the road.

there are always signs, except in the case of the mobile cameras...so if you pay attention, you can avoid 90% of the cameras.
For the moble ones, just look for vans which are out of place.
My favorite game with the mobile ones, if I have time, is to park in front of them...that way they cant take peoples pictures...all they get is a close up of your bumper.

But then you'd be driving the speed limit anyway because you don't know the road.

I disagree with this mentality of "obey what the government says just because...or else..." That might not be exactly what you're saying, but that's certainly how I interpret it. Speed cameras are simply revenue generators. That's it. And its the same concept as installing cameras to catch people jaywalking. The line isn't clearly drawn anymore on what violates our rights as citizens. I'm as law-abiding as anyone, which is to say that I'm a criminal.
"The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." - Ayn Rand
And that's how a government assumes more power. I don't like speed cameras, I'm not going to sit back and lt them march over me and what I think is right.

if you speed regardless of how well you know the road you're dumb. There are exceptions...like in the praries, where you can see for eons...but I wouldn't drive a mountain road I had never seen before at an excess of speed.
And I completely agree with the comment on speed cameras being a revenue generator. The Chief of police just asked to be able to lowwer the threshold at which the camera will fire...the premire said "NO" saying that the cameras were originally propsed by the chief as a way to control speed at a dangerous intersection, and thay are working fine the way they are. The chief then wanted to install more, and again the premire said "NO", citng that there was onw a camera at every "black spot" the cheif recomended.
the problem in winnipeg is that we learned too quick, and the cameras haven't paid for themselves yet...and its been 5 years.
its funny...every cops show...they catch all manner of villan durring routine traffic stops...having a cop pull people over is an infinetly better way to maintain law and order, than having some camera snap a picture fo someone speeding.

Slowing down?! Then the terrorists have won!
Anyway, driving the speed limit in California will get you:
1. Late
2. Honked at
3. Hit
4. Shot
It is not possible for a person to function in today's society properly while going the speed limit. It's amazing that this "premier" guy actually said no to all these "police chief" demands. In California we installed "Yellow Light Cameras" to catch people running read lights, then we subsequently changed the yellow light times to be shorter in order to generate more revenue.

How many mountain roads have you seen with speed cameras on? I for one have never seen a speed camera on a mountain road.
I think it's down to your own judgement. If I'm speeding on a road I don't know, it's only because it's obvious there won't be a speed camera i.e. I can see down the road far enough. They're quite cleary marked anyway now. Forward facers are the real bastards.
