Recently, I've been increasingly attracted by Apple hardware and software, especially with the new Intel Core 2 Dual iMac and the new iPods (both are cheaper and more powerful now)..
So what do you guys think?
I am planning to wait for the release of the new OS X Leopard and buy a iMac.

I don't like em much at all. They are for people who don't like or know anything about computers, do religious video editing or just care about aesthetics. Mac owners act like owning a PC is the worst thing in the world.
I admit I am very biased because I do a lot of gaming. Any video game oriented mac will always cost wayyyyyy more than any comparable pc. If I wasn't, I would still probably still stick to pc's. Changing over to a mac would just throw away my preference of building my own computers and choosing my own parts. But, what really bothers me is how you are forced to buy all your hardware from the same company, which eliminates any hope of price comptetition or selection. It's also the attitude most mac owners have like they are better than everybody else. Those new commercials with the mac and pc guy just reinforces my point. It's not like it's gonna increase their sales, it's just Steve Jobs being a dick.
It's just my 2 cents.

I heart macs. I run my own web design shop on a Mini (G4/Tiger/1gb of Ram) and the little bugger screams along running Photoshop, skedit, adium, 3 browsers, iTunes, etc.

How so? Do you not want it to be the player of most movie files?
If not, just get another app (like VLC), right click on the file you
don't want Quicktime to play, choose Get Info, then pick another default player for all files with that extension.
Simple, done.

basically, idiot is attracted by MOS' UI.....and all the little programs that comes with MOS....(ie: Automator, Time Machine and so on....)
i'm not a professional programmer, so i can't really say anything about the OS....but as an end user that only do word processing and some low cpu demanding tasks....any OS is good.......i'm still using my P3 800MHz....and there is nothing wrong with it.....you can call me a noob or whatever you want...
i'm not computer illiterate......so i would really like to learn Linux because there are a lot of free variance like Ubuntu.....so....i guess i will choose OS base on the price

It's just a computer. Get whatever you like.
As far as someone commenting on Macs are for people that don't know anything about computers. Well, im an IT guy, I know something about computers and I have used various operating systems. Macs just cut out the bullshit Windows put in their system. Thats it. While it takes you 6 clicks to find what you need, it takes 2 to find the same thing. I also love opening up the unix shell and writing scripts and automated tasks. Seems to me with each Windows release they are emulating the originator, IMO.
With that said, I have both. A windows desktop and an iBook laptop.

I prefer PCs just cause its what i've used for so long and its what i'm used to. Although their products are always slick looking and attractive, they seem to have a lot of problems (from what i've seen from friend's experiences). I have two friends with Macbook Pro's in my suite here at school and both of them have had to get new batteries because they wouldnt stay charged and other problems including warped screens, overheating, etc... Also, everything Apple makes seems to be wayyy overpriced. Its amusing to go into an Apple store at the mall and see one product made by Apple that is sometimes twice as expensive or more than the exact same product made by a 3rd party. Another thing i've noticed is the suprisingly short lifespan of iPods, especially the 3rd (i think) generation. They would die after about a year in most cases (i and many of my friends had to have ours replaced by apple). I'm quite happy with my 30gb video ipod i have now, it hasnt given me any problems so far *knocks on wood*, and as far as computers go, i'm also pleased with my HP notebook (dv400 - nothing special, but not lacking anything i need) so I'd prefer to just stick to PCs.

I agree with infinity935. I have used PC's for so long and I don't think that "converting" to Mac would do me any good. I've used the Macbook Pro before and, yes, it's sleek and looks awesome, but, the GUI and the way that you navigate through the OS just doesn't suit me.

Sep 14 2006, 12:53 PM
Neither do Macs. You can browse through Finder in a hierarchy style (on Windows, it's what you call Explorer [mentioned above]), or you can hit cmd+space and type part of your desired application name, wait a second, and press Enter. That functionality comes in Spotlight, which is part of OS X, not a separate piece of software.
QuickSilver is a third-party program, but takes the ease of Spotlight and quadruples it.

Point was that PCs don't even have programs like that in the first place. If Macs are so "user-friendly" and easy to navigate, why would these programs even exist? PCs don't have programs (3rd party) dedicated to simply navigate the OS.

"Search" rarely used in Windows because all it does is make the hard drive spin like crazy (at least that's I find, a 100gb hd will take forever to search). Why do you think Vista is going to have a new "search" ?

I'm getting tired of complete idiots making comments when they clearly haven't confirmed them. Well, maybe you're not an idiot, but you clearly haven't used a Mac lately.
A. Apple realized people wanted two buttons, so they introduced the mighty mouse. Before that you could go to your local any-store and buy a third party two-button mouse for a few bucks. That's called "listening to their user base".
B. What? The only way the app windows hide themselves is if you press F11. And that, my uninformed friend, is a great feature. I'd like to know where you experienced clicking outside of a window and seeing then application exit.
C. My iPod is 4 years old and works perfectly. On a Mac (I can see how this would differ on a PC), there is nothing I'd rather use than iTunes. I speak for just about every Mac user when I say that.
