MONTREAL (Reuters) - At least one gunman dressed in a black trenchcoat opened fire in a downtown Montreal college on Wednesday, and early reports said four people had died.

Students fled in panic from the building, and eyewitnesses reported blood on its entry steps, and inside the cafeteria where many of the shots were fired.

"It was the most scary thing that has ever happened to me," student Michael Boyer told CBC Television. "We ran out of the building as a SWAT team was coming in. They were screaming 'Where is he? Where is he?' And when you have 20 police running at you with guns you really know that your life is in danger."

Hospital officials told local television stations that 12 people had been injured, and six were in critical condition.

I heard about this on my way home, it freaks me out about how these things happen. I really don't know what to say anymore. Montreal was always a city of borders. The line between the rich and the poor are clearly drawn out if you drive around the city. The area inwhich I live in is really awkward, because in one section you have the most expensive neighbourhood of the city, but if you continue a bit longer you find yourself in the poorest neighbourhood of the city.

That's kind of like here, where I go to school. In the city of Hartford, it's liquor store after liquor store after fried chicken place after liquor store. The entire city just screams "poverty." But, once you cross this one-laned bridge into West Hartford, million-dollar-mansions are the norm. Right across the street from the University entrance lies a 5-story estate. It still amazes me that the lines, literal or not, between rich and poor are still so common.

Anyway, back on topic: The shootings come as such a shock to me. I had always pictured Montreal as a nice place to live with minimal violence, but, I had never been there. It seems that the whole black trenchcoat thing is the staple for school-shooters, starting with Columbine, Colorado.

The truth is that, as a city Montreal isn't THAT amazing to live in. The drivers are idiotic, some of the people are arrogant, the car dealerships are pretentious and the city is filthy. Don't expect to drive your new Porsche anywhere either because the majority of the roads here are so poorly kept, that it's unusually NOT to see a 4 inch deep pothole. What really makes me stay here in Montreal is the fact that the nightlife is so unique, and there is so much hustle and bustle downtown. The centre core of our city is what maks me stay here. Everything about downtown makes me love it more and more.

I think the new update is

19 wounded

1 innocent dead

1 crazy gunman dead

Gunman in Montreal college shooting called himself 'angel of death'

The gunman who went on a shooting spree at a Montreal college on Wednesday left an online journal with chilling comments and photos of himself brandishing a semi-automatic rifle.

Kimveer Gill, who was identified by several publications as the man who shot dead a young woman and wounded 19 more, left behind a web diary at the website vampirefreaks.com.

Return fire? In a crowded student area? So you can do more harm than good?

Yeah, that's real fucking smart.

PM me to continue the discussion if you are so inclined. I will no longer contribute to this thread.
