How about instead of going around locking every fucking thread that you dont like you actually make a set of fucking rules for the forum for people to follow. There is an FAQ in the issues and suggestions forum which is probably the forum with the least amount of traffic and you know if you were new to the board you wouldnt go in there right away. So before you go around like a bunch of rabid douchebags locking everything you actually make a guidline for EVERYONE to follow and sticky it in every forum.

I was under the impression that the new mods were supposed to be more noob friendly and more behind the scenes. Instead I've heard more bitching and complaining about them than anything else, besides from us old mods who were doing a fine job before the change.

If there is no guidelines/rules for everyone to follow then I dont see how ANYONE can be mod. You cant enforce rules that arent there.

That is absolute rubbish. A new member should not have to "lurk around" just to see what power-hungry people in a damn internet forum "rule" it, just to avoid being ridiculed/bashed on technicalities. Most of the mods in this forum don't give new members a chance right off the bat when they begin posting. New members should be provided a decent and easily found set of rules/guidelines, and mods should allow the new members a grace period to get accustomed to the forum and its rules and guidelines before bashing them as soon as they begin posting. Every time a new member joins DS they are immediately ridiculed and bashed without being given a chance to establish themselves as a decent member. Mods wonder why new members get so gay about things, and it seems to me like its because they're instantly outcast from the forum and probably end up scared to post anything for fear of being bashed for it. That or they defend themselves, and then you bash them more, which just pisses them off more, and so on and so forth. Give new members a chance, let them establish themselves, and don't right them off just because they have less posts than you.

Well to us (former) mods credit, we only jumped on members if their first post consisted of "Hay guyz wut is up^?" and stupid shit like that. I personally tried to weed out complete fucking idiots, the last thing we want is a bunch of 13 yearolds who think they know things about cars flooding our forum with stupid bullshit. That's why us former mods were so hard on noobs to try to weed out the morons. We wernt hard on all noobs, just the ones that showed a complete lack of intellegence

What us senior members liked most about the forum was the tight nit community we had going for awhile. Now all this noob friendly bullshit is basically ruining the forum and a lot of senior members are slowly leaving.

The threads were stupid but trail does make a good point, our new mods (and old mod..cough northpoint) suck.

look. i'm trying something NEW.. cuz obviously i wasn't happy with the OLD. If the NEW doesn't work out.. then i'll try something else. but this whole whining isn't helping. If you guys seen actions that need to be taken.. then please tell a mod/admin. If you think something needs to change, voice your opinion in the Issues & Suggestions.

I understand what you are trying to fix but how can it be fixed if you have nothing to base it on? I dont care who the mods are there needs to be a set of guidlines for them to go by. You can just moderate a website on peoples different personal opinions being used to lock threads and whatnot. If there were a set of rules and guidlines and somthing doenst follow them then its locked weather you like it or not. No one could bitch about it because they would be posted for everyone to see so no excuses as to why they woudlnt be followed.

how about this trail boss. why dont we set up an intensive screening program that really focuses on a new member's aptitude in the arts, sciences and literature. we'll require a 10 page dissertation that will be carefully reviewed by a panel of oxford PhD's after which a beefed up version of the SAT math section will be given. if the member in question cannot come up with material worthy of publication in at least 3 different academic journals and score a 790 or higher in math, they will be publically shamed and forever banned from the forum, not by IP, but by DNA fingerprinting.

no you say? oh, well. then i suppose we should just keep locking ridiculous threads as they are created because it seems as though no one has the power to raise the general intelligence and courtesy of the internet population. we have a set of rules already, if you'd like them stickied in every forum as a constant reminder, so be it. but in general, i dont really think this place has fallen into the clutches of a 3rd grade class hyped on caffeine.

the only dramatic solution i could think of to 99% assure ourselves of good moderation would be to hire someone full time. the mods/admins on here have classes, or jobs, or even families to attend to. banning some punk on DS is (typically) secondary to these things.

in conclusion, i agree with you somewhat, but in the end i feel as though there isnt a hell of a lot that a few members can do. and that whole sarcastic bit a the beginning was more for my amusement than anything, so dont freak out.
